Cant get Wico joystick out. Is the the bushing rusted?

Hey guys, I am trying to get a wico joystick out and it looks like the rubber/bushing should slide off the joystick but it seems to be rusted on. First off is that my problem, or am i missing something?

Also if it is rusted/corroded on what are my options?

Thanks!

yea good luck i just had a ms pac joy with the same grommet and bushings soaked the sucker in pb blaster for a day then wd 40 for 2 days hit it with my sonic parts cleaner and still stuck like glue

i ended up having to just cut the rubber grommet to remove the joy from the cp and buying a replacment stick and rubber grommet

You have a problem. Not only is it rusted, it may have swelled a bit as well. I must just be lucky, because I can almost always get those apart.

The shaft is rusted inside the metal bushing. I usually squirt some Kroil on the shaft and let it run into the bushing for a day. Then the shaft should come out.

I had this problem with my Ms Pac. I tried all those things. My solution was to just cut the rubber grommit out. Then I used a hacksaw to cut the steel bushing off of the joystick. You could just replace the grommit and the joystick shaft, but mine was in pretty good shape. Bob has the centering grommits, I think for around $10.

Great tip, I used some PB Blaster. 1 of them took 2 applications but they all came out!!! :)
