Can't decide what to dump....Robotron or Black Widow....

So I've long had the policy that I only keep games in my game room that other people play when they come over. I have a fairly small space so I don't want to take up a lot of room with a dud of a game. The one exception to this has always been Black Widow because I LOVE THAT GAME. But....honestly, I don't play it that much anyway unless others are over too. But I hang onto it just because I feel attached somehow.

But then I got a Robotron and figured more people would remember that game and I had planned on selling the Robotron and parting with my beloved BW. Game play is similar but pretty different too.

Well I've had 2 gatherings since I got it working and guess what....almost nobody played Robotron either! Hmmmm. So now I'm torn on which to keep and which to sell. One of them is going to go out the door for sure. I love color vectors so I'm tempted to hang onto BW. But maybe I should give Robotron some more time first. But I have another game coming in next week that will make it super cramped to keep them all.

I love this hobby!

sell Gravitar. THe other two are much better games.

Robotron is better than Black Widow. Sell Black Widow.

Most people don't remember Robotron, however it is good enough that it is quite easy to introduce people to and then they will get into it.

Yeah I think that's true of Black Widow as well though. Once people get started on it...if they ever start...they like it. But it has this horrible start-up option where it asks what level you want to start on and EVERYONE gets stuck there and then walks away. Is there a way to turn that off? Maybe that would solve that problem.

Robotron is twice as cool as any other game that's been mentioned in this thread.

Also it's really intuitive to play. Grab the sticks. Move them.

I think you know what you need to do.

Then why didn't anyone play it at the last two big parties when all the other games (other than BW which was broken) got played a ton?

They all must suck. Get rid of them too lol.

Like anything it comes down to personal preference but Robotron is like a top 10 game IMHO. No way in hell I'd get rid of it for Black Widow or Gravitar (both also cool games... just not Robotron).

man I just picked up a 9/10 gravitar and a 9.5/10 (fully restored) berzerk or I'd be knocking down your door for either of these.

keep us all posted, I could still be interested.

Random people don't always queue up towards the best games.

Weird half memories, what other people are playing, machine location in the gameroom and the people playing nearby games will all have huge effects on what people play.

I used to have an Altered Beast in my gameroom. It was a Robotron conversion, with the joysticks too close together (they kept them in the same place as Robotron had them) and the buttons in a nearly unplayable layout. Yet for some reason it was always the first thing everyone walked up to, even though it was the worst thing in the gameroom.

Lead by example. Play Robotron and other people will play Robotron. Black Widow is great, but it is no Robotron.

Yeah I heard you got that Gravitar. What was the story on that? I just picked up this HUO one that I got from a guy who bought it directly from Atari way back in the day. It's fun but there's no way people who come over would ever figure it out!

I got them from a klover (doesn't spend much time on here) who is limited for space and caught the pin bug.

yeah gravitar is definitely no ms pac man or centipede as far as walking up and playing goes.

Those are some really good points. Like this last time, Tron got a ton of play just because a few people had fond memories of the game. And Asteroids Deluxe usually doesn't get much play because of where it's located and kind of hard to get to when others are playing the Chexx game. But this time it did really well for the same reason....memories.

This thread wasn't intended to get people fired up about buying one of my games by the way. I may end up not selling either of them for a while still just because I'm so torn on the decision. But hearing opinion helps me to sort through my thoughts on it. Plus it's just fun to hear other peoples thoughts on how they go about choosing.

I still haven't even gotten close to clearing the first screen on that game. I haven't tried all that hard yet though either. I thought my kids would like it because they love Lunar Lander (which I don't have) but it's too hard for them.

Black widow for sure...

Sweet game, and one i want in my collection, but sorry Robotron can't be beat by any other dual stick game (or any for that matter) even if its a color vector

keep black widow and play gravitar in it. Robotron, I would multi williams it.

I would keep both and get rid of xmen or spiderman. They are both jamma games and they can be played in the other cab. So why keep both.

I actually love both games, but I'd sell the Black Widow while its working. Unless you're really handy with monitor repair, color vectors seem like a nightmare waiting to happen.

you can always buy a Multiwilliams board to get robotron again. Black widow is a little tougher to come by. Black widow is more valuable than a robotron as well.
