Candy Crane resets after claw is deployed

I'm helping a local operator in fixing his candy crane. It's from S&B.

First, the minor issue is that the crane doesn't boot unless you allow it to sit off for 5-10 seconds. If you flip the power within the coin door off then on the lights will come up but no display or motion from the claw.

However, the main issue is that the game dies whenever the claw is used. It will either happen when the claw drops and shuts (leaving it extended) or as soon as the claw retracts to the top. The lights stay on but all motion and display dies on the game. It never goes to home position and drops the candy.

I shot the following video showing the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buRQgmo3Xvk&list=UU4svzv0wR7yJXaqetybB1Uw&index=1

If you can suggest any areas to look and check it would be most appreciated. I've put in a lot of hours trying to diagnose so far, but am obviously missing something.

crane

i have heard techs from the crane factories tell me to adjust the vdc to 5.5 as a start, (measured at the pcb not power supply)
i am amazed at how many crane issues this fixes

S&B? This looks like an AGE Crane I worked on. I wonder if S&B bought out AGE?

In my case, the crane claw wouldn't close, and I tracked it down to a pulled wire on one of the processor board pins. They weren't attached well - I'd suggest giving them a look.

Hi.

The video was an excellent tool. Well done.

I agree with r5g - It looks like when you start loading the power supply down (first with the Claw Coil then the motor to lift the claw) this may drop the +5 too low and cause the logic to fail. All the limit switches in the Trolley seem ok considering the unit initializes on initial power up.

this is a macrown crane the best place for it would be the trash
they are garbage cranes.

first check the power distribution pcb, it is located in front of the mainboard
and looks like this

these are notoriously flakey in import cranes and could be causing problems.

also did you check the fuses, particularly the 5a claw fuse? could be the claw coil is drawing too many amps?

but IMO
i would guess its a short somewhere, the wires used in these cranes are very thin and
poor quality. you will unfortunately have to trace everything back from the switches
on the crane head to find the problem.

Thanks for the help on this guys. I finally got it fixed last night. After the 5v talk I started looking into how to adjust the claw position voltage. After finding the right dip switch setting in the manual and dialing it in with the pots on the pcb over a brief period of time, it solved the resets and worked as intended. Opp is putting it back on route today.

Thanks again!
