I'm working on a Smart industries 24" candy crane and was wondering if anyone had a scanned manual. I have emailed the company but no response so far....

The claw seems to close about 1 second to late, when it is already raising, so it's not grabbing anything.

Isn't that the whole point ? :)

Seriously though....
Not sure about a manual.
Does the claw go down, sit there a bit and then start to come back up?
Might check for a "claw down" switch and make sure it's being triggered when the claw hits bottom.

If you know what revision it is you might try some different Game Configuration dipswitch settings. I saw those listed on their site. (if they match your machine that is)

It should be a 5th Gen board set in that cab.

It sounds like the claw coil is getting weak or the voltage is set to low.
The adjustment pot for the claw strength should be mounted on the side wall when you open the coin door. See if increasing the voltage helps.

Also check the claw tine linkage and see if they are too tight.

Smarts trigger the claw close and motor up relays milliseconds apart so if the claw voltage is to low, coil is weak or if the linkage too tight you will have a delay in action.

Sad, the book does not state what the error codes mean. Not so Smart... The crane has NO model number. All I can say is this thing is tiny. I could fit it in the back of my mini van. . I've never liked the products from this company since the first ticket eaters back in 1998... Ken just backed up my thoughts on their technical support, but then again what chineese manufacture is well suported in the US?

Anyways, does anyone know what an error 3 is? I have one of these cranes and it keeps giving an error 3. The claw seems to intermintently fail to move from right to left on the return trip to the home position after some skittles or lemon heads are won. I checked my harness for failures and swapped motors. Nothing.
The manual does NOT have a troubleshooting section.

Jerry:

We had trouble like yours with a generation 7 machine. Turned out to be the wiring harness on the trolley had several internal hairline breaks in some wires. We ended up purchasing & installing a brand new wiring harness. Worked like a champ.
