Candy Cab Suggestions

Both of those are the same joystick, just one doesn't have a mounting plate installed (for the people who want to make a custom mounting plate or have already made one and will transfer it from an existing stick)

Oh ok yea knew they were the same I wasn't sure what the plate was really all about, I should've worded it a little better. Thnks for explaining what the plate was for.

The stick without the plate would most likely be for wood cabs where you attach the stick using screws from the top of the control panel :)

I'm looking at my picture of mine and I can't tell if I have a plate on mine. Can't see it in person at the moment since I'm not at home and currently on my ship.

That looks like a Sega control panel? It should have an S plate on it if it hasn't been modified which yours looks like it may have been, normally the S plate will attach to bolts on top and bottom (which you can see upopulated in your photo) where yours is attached left and right.

If you can remove it from the cab (when you're back home) and take a photo I can help out more

A legit Sega Panel has a bracket welded onto the underside that looks like this:
attachment.php

Notice that the bracket is mounted horizontally with 1 hole on each side.

If using a Sanwa Stick with that style bracket then you do not need a mounting plate, the stick will attach like this:
attachment.php

the holes in the bracket should be threaded so that all you need are two screws.

Now if you're using a different control panel where the bracket is mounted vertically with 2 holes on each side then you'll typically need a mounting plate.

Also if using a Seimitsu or other brand stick you may need an adapter plate.

It looks like thankmenever's CP may be aftermarket, without a plated welded, but with the joystick mounted in the same fashion?

:edit: I just looked back through the album of pictures that was linked. The CP says "Egret", whether original or aftermarket. Did original Egret CP's come without a welded bracket, and allow the stick to mount directly to the underside of the panel without a mounting plate?

That's not an original Egret Panel... I can tell you that.

but FWIW they do have a bracket but it's vertical and has 4 studs for mounting the joystick... and require the use of a mounting plate.

Also original Egret II/Egret 3/Atomiswave SD panels are slightly larger and rounder than the Sega panels such that original Egret panels wont fit a Sega cab, but Sega panels WILL fit an egret cab.

They look like this if you're interested:

I just bought an Original Blast City Control panel from Japan a couple weeks ago and it has the same brackets that you are showing in your picture. And again I thnk all you guys for the posts and replies in the thread it's helping me out lots, now I can't wait to get back home from this ship so I can clean that cabinet up and get everything wired up!!

Just saw this at Zapcon 5.

Those are Sega New Versus City cabinets.

Really cool cabs but you need A LOT of space because it's basically two cabs back to back and you cannot separate them because they share the same base.

They typically have 1 PCB in there with the video split to the two sides and each player getting their controls send to their own panel. that way with games like Street Fighter you can play head to head with each player having their own screen and control panel.

They also have a 2-digit scoreboard just below the marquee that's supported by a dozen or so games. Here's a closer look at those exact cabs:

I've actually been working on control system for the scoreboard:

Ended up hanging out with my buddy Nando in his home arcade. Did some Live video tests there playing some shmups. Fun time!

If you're curious, here's the Live gameroom walkthrough I did the same day:

Enjoy!

Question: what restrictor should I buy for my sanwa's I see they have a square 4/8 way or an octagon does it really matter which one I get?

hardcore fighting game people and purists will swear by the square gates and claim that an octagon gate is analogous to using training wheels.

octagon gate basically makes it easier to pull off quarter circle and half circle motions.

I would argue that a square gate makes it easier to pull of a shoryuken "Z" motion (forward, down, down-forward).

Western style arcade sticks like the Happ sticks and old Wicos have round gates while traditionally the Sanwas/Seimetsus have square gates, so I would think that picking one over the other is based on what kind of gate feel you prefer.

Personally for me it depends on the cab. all of my Candys have square gates while all of my MK/KI and other cabs have proper Happ style sticks with round gates.

Does anyone know where I can find the (Earth Wire) single green wire that is located to the far right of the 2p loom I think it's a ground wire but haven't found too many posts about it, mine doesn't have that wire and I'm assuming I'm supposed to have this connected but my Blast City didn't have this wire in my cp and this is just a photo for reference and is not mine, any input is appreciated.

Earth is ground. While I don't see it in the picture, it is intended to be an equipment ground, it's purpose to provide a ground path for all metal components and to prevent people from getting shocked should a hot wire short to a metal component. Is it on yours, just not at the same location? As long as it is there and terminated somewhere that is common to all the metal parts of the cp, then you're okay. They usually have a ring-type termination and are landed at a screw at the bracket that holds the top of the cp to the bottom of the cp.

This is the pic of one with one, with the pink outline

then my picture of my setup with the blue circle showing where the earth wiring goes, everything is unhooked now because I've been cleaning but i didn't didn't find that wire.

I swear every cab I've ever bought has had the earth ground missing or disconnected.

I would recommend just making your own, it should bolt down to one of the studs on the metal panel, and as NoAffinity said, it's just there to keep people from getting shocked.

Official episode on the Candy Cab home arcade tour is up! I'm so jelly, he has a great collection! For now, I'll need to settle on heading to his house when I want to play any. LOL.
