So looking to start my long search for candy cabs, what are some really good ones to get? I'm wanting some so that I can use for my CPS2s, and possibly get one for CPS3 and NeoGeo. All suggestions are very much welcome!!

There are many good types. The main thing to know is that they are very hard to find, especially if you live outside of LA or San Fran and very expensive. Your best bet is to hang out on the Shmups or Neo Geo forums and keep an eye out for a group import buy. There's also Kens Gameroom out of Utah who sells and ships them, but they are going to cost you and they usually need a lot of cleaning and/or work. Good luck finding one.

Thanks for the info!! Yea I've done a lot of reading and see that it will take me a while and I'll be moving back to the east coast soon. So going to suck even more shipping wise. but i'm patient and my time will come.

The best piece of advice I can give you when selecting is to ensure the monitor is in good shape. Followed by that, the power supply. Both items are getting harder to find for these cabinets and are fairly unique to the model of cabinet. Me personally, I think the Sega Blast is the way to go. Good looking cabinet and fairly easy to work with. Also uses the same control panel across several Sega models.

Very helpful info!! Much appreciated, and I like game art and marquees and I've been seeing a lot for the games I want and have specifically for that cab so I was starting to think that was the cab preferred by most.

I run a black board Street Fighter 20th anniversary in mine. Had a custom marquee made up. Looks nice.

Thumbs up for Sega Blast City.

2 Blast City cabinets showed up for sale on the Neo forums. Seller is looking for $1300 and is located in Vacaville. Not a bad price based on the seller description (no smoking damage/rebuilt monitor). I'd think you would be getting a good deal for $1100.

Good thread. I'd like to get a candy cab eventually for street fighter 2 type purposes.

If you think you are strong enough, you can rotate the monitor in a Blast without much to disconnect. I can rotate mine in about 2 minutes. I suggest wearing gloves while doing it. That monitor is about 80lbs of awkwardness and the metal frame will dig into your hand.

Same here..but for naomi/netdimm setups. What are the best cabs for the easy monitor rotate?

If the monitors are rotatable in them, I would think Net City or New Net City would be your best bet, since they are natively JVS.

To the OP, Aero City's are typically a little less expensive, but often come with the 3-button per player setup, so you would have to import a 6-button CP from the likes of River Service. Add about an extra $130 shipped for a fully populated 2P CP.

Of course, going with any of the natively 6-button per player cabs will save you that hassle but they typically also carry a higher price tag.

And, agreed, make the monitor your main focus. Something with a lot of burn (or more burn than you can live with) will be difficult to impossible (in terms of availability), or overly expensive, to replace. The power supply could be replaced with a switcher, but with a lot of effort and butchering to re-wire, and if you're a purist like me, you want something of this nature to be all original.

Good luck with the hunt! They're out there, you just gotta be vigilant and quick.

Haha good luck finding an impress. Agreed, very awesome cabs but practically non-existent. That and if anyone ever decides to part with a capcom q25, I have a left nut to trade. [emoji14]

I'm assuming that $1300 price tag would be for each? (Not both).

I'm on the East coast. May be if you buy both and bring it when you move? Lol. Where are you moving to?

Sega is by far the easiest to live with in that parts are still reasonably easy to come by, they are generally pretty reliable and they aren't insanely expensive to buy.

Taito Egret 2 has the best monitor rotation mechanism but they're expensive and impossible to find parts for

At the end of the day, find something that you like the look of :)

Ultimately I would suggest getting what is available with a great monitor and then at a price point that works for you and just have fun with it. I like the Capcom Impress as many of the games I played on candy cabs were Capcom games and so I have one of these.
