Can you "turn" the picture?

I have a police 911 and when I was moving it into my house (damn, the thing is HUGE) my buddy dumped it on its left side (on the grass)

Anyway, I am thinking the picture tube might have gotten jarred and now the top of the picture is rotated about 1/2"-1" to the 11 o'clock position and the bottom is the same to the 5 o'clock position (if that makes any sense at all)

My question is this, can I move it back by hand? (I know about discharging the tube so I don't fry myself)

(I have tried to fix it using the monitor picture controls, without success)

Thanks for any help.

Again, what type of monitor is in it? You can check if the yoke has moved, though does the image look wrong color-wise, or is it just rotated? Usually if the yoke has moved, the colors of the image looks really messed up. If it's a newish monitor (mine has a D9200), I think there's an extra coil for rotation, which you should check to make sure hasn't come loose. You say you've tried the controls... if it's a D9200 or similar, I assume you've tried the on-screen menu rotate function (I think that's an option)? Or maybe it's a pot on the board... I don't remember.

Either it shifted on it's mounts or the yoke has rotated. if the image is even with the edge of the tube, then it has shifted on it's mounts. if it's angles with the top of the tube, then yes, you can rotate the yoke back to normal. It's most likely already loose, so carefully move it back and tighten it (not too tight or you'll break the tube - just enough so it won't rotate on it's own).

You won't get shocked from touching the yoke if you keep your hands and arms away from the anode cup and the chassis. If you have someone to watch, you can move it back to where it needs to be then tighten it...

Wells Garner 2775 according to the manual.

Never go by the manual. You need to actually look at the monitor. Monitors get changed all the time, and furthermore, it's really common for games to leave the factory with a different-than-usual monitor installed. They often used whatever they could get at the time.

Hehe. Sometimes the manual is for the correct device, but just plain wrong. Case in point, the schematics for the Robotron I/O board are different than the actual board...

Monitor type

Ok, the chassis says Wells Gardner on the PCB, but which number/place is the model?

Let me know and I will find it and put it up.

Thanks.

Just look for the clamp, loosen it a bit if necessary, rotate the entire yoke a tad to situate the image where it belongs. Keep it snug up against the rubber wedges and just don't get carried away with it and you should be fine. Lightly tighten the clamp back up, done.

Use a sharpie and mark the yoke before moving it just for a refrence point. Its going to require a very slight rotation and will probably take a few trys to get it perfect.

I'd check whether the yoke is loose, but if it's not, definitely don't move it. If the yoke moves, typically the whole image looks like crap, not just rotated... if you move your yoke, it may take a lot of work to get it back to the right spot. And to ID your monitor, check: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/monitor.html ... it's probably something like the WG U5000, or the D9200 (which he doesn't have pictured), but you can see here: http://retroblast.arcadecontrols.com/reviews/d9200-1.html . Or you can post a pic of the problem and your monitor and we can probably help more.

BTW, mine has a D9200 in it, which actually has a rotation control on the board (VR101). It's a vertical facing pot closest to you when looking at it from the back.

If it IS a D9200, some have bonded yokes that CAN'T move, and some don't....

Yep... mine is bonded (and has a warning saying to not attempt removing :p ). But I noticed mine was slightly tilted, looked, and saw the pot for rotation. I've also read about people not hooking up the "second degaussing coil" and having a tilted screen... so I guess that coil is for rotation control, not degaussing ;) .

I believe it is the 9200

I do have the vr101 pot. Tried it, didn't fix the issue. Can anyone with a working Police 911 please email me. This may be an easier fix than I thought.....

Thanks for all the help and replies.
