Can You Run A Midway MCR Cab W/O Midway Power Brick

I figured I would ask in a more generic sense. I have a Tapper cab that I am restoring. It was completely gutted of all things Midway. Is it possible to just run this with a standard ISO transformer and switching PS? Is there anything so special about the Midway brick?

The arcadeshop MCR switcher adapter needs the power brick to get 12v for the audio section I believe.

You can probably just add a 12v transformer to it if you don't have the power brick.

do you have the two channel audio amp?

When I test MCR boards on my bench I have nothing but a switcher and a 2 channel amp so its doable.

OK, so I need something to generate 12V or just run the 12V off of the switcher?

I need to grab an amp. I accidentally grabbed one from TRON and it's the wrong version.

I'd be interested to know more about your setup.

those MCR boards are whacky.

You need to have an isolated source voltage running to that 3 pin connector on the AS adapter or you MIGHT get a super load buzz. Not all the boards do it but some do.

What I did on my bench was to put a small bridge rectifier across my GND and +12 (connected the AC pins to them) and used the +/- pins as the isolated GND and +12. Works great as I dont get any noticeable buzz on my bench and I'm only using one power supply.

You could also just supply those two wires from a 12VAC transformer or run 12VDC into it from another power supply. GND would connect to 0 and +12 to 12.

Many thanks!

My ATX adapters don't need AC from the transformer....

Still need an iso for the monitor in any case.
