Can you get raster if degaussing cable isn't plugged in?

Intuitively, I would think yes, but honestly haven't tried it. We have a stack of generic chassis that are brand new but won't fire up. Looks like we need to add pins to plug in the degaussing wire and am wondering if that might be it. We've got the power running off an isolation transformer so we're good there.

anyone ever accidently juice one up and forgot to plug in the degaussing cable? If so what were your symptoms.

the degauss cable is not required on almost all chassis to operate.

you can run them without it no prob.

you may have to manually degauss them every time you turn them on tho.

That's what I figured, colors would be funky but should turn on. Next up to eliminate is the tube. It's rated for 6 -12 vertical and 1.5 -3 horizontal. We are right at 1.5 ohms on the horiz. If the yoke was out of spec by a hair would it refuse to turn on? It says that it can fry your board if it's not in range, but right at the edge shouldn't stress it out too much and it seems like I'd still get raster but the screen would be keystone if the yoke was off. Fuses on the chassis test good, I'm trying to figure out other potential reasons why they won't give us any love straight out of the box. They don't make some kind of a European chassis that takes 220v instead do they?

it should still turn on.

what chassis are we talking about.

a known brand or some off the wall job??

I accidentally ran a 25" monitor with the degaussing coil unplugged for > 6 months and it came on and the colors were fine the whole time.

I guess there wasn't enough stray magnetic fields to cause any issues so the coil wouldn't have had anything to do anyway...

We bought them from China. We wanted to see if brand new chassis would be more dependable than rebuilt ones. Didn't really expect to answer that this quickly. It was made by Guangzhou ZhiDa Entertainment Fitting Co and has model HL-25a stamped on the neckboard. I would guess that it is similar to the ones sold by dirtcheaptrading, but ours doesn't use a remote pot board. Not even sure where to measure the b+ or even what it should be without a working one to compare with.

that sucks that you bought junk.

none of those chassis will ever come close to 10% of what a real rebuilt chassis would do.

they all have issues that there is no remedy for.
they say they work, but that is mostly a myth.

there is little to no info on them and most folks will not touch them for repair.

i trash everyone i get just to save time and energy.

buy what works and you will not have issues.

i know nothing about them.

if you have the original chassis and they are the models i fix, your welcome to send them in.

if you need chassis and they are ones i have i can fix them for you.

Turns out that it's the tube. Can't blame the Chinese for this one, it was the fine folks at the econolodge who must have sold us one with a short or something. In retrospect the rust around the yoke should have been a tipoff. I'm not so worried about the longevity as I am in the reliability and replacability. Even our fully rebuilt chassis are going down once per year. These generic ones need a bit of modding to get going but if they last even three years of fulltime use before breaking then theyll be worth the investment

i doubt you will get 1 year out of them.
i would be willing to wager 6 months on over half of them.

if your rebuilt chassis are not lasting, they may not have good parts in them when they are rebuilt.

i rebuild dozens of them for operators and folks all over the world, and have only had 4-5 come back in 5-6 years.

of those that came back, it was new parts that failed, not the parts i used.

good luck with them.

The China chassis are not only unreliable, the pictures always look horible. Best to stick with k7000's as most tv's have tube's that are direct replacements.
