Can you erase tube burn, or do you just get another monitor ?

Just wondering if it is actually possible?

I have my Gunsmoke cocktail as of today, i havent even got it in the house, but there is Gunsmoke screen burn on it. What would YOU do?

The short answer, nope. You can't erase burn.

Long answer: No, but there are options.

Tinted plexi is pretty effective at hiding burn, especially if the burn is really only noticeable when the game is off. I'd recommend trying this before you do anything else.

If the burn is so bad that it is very visible game play, you're best bet is a tube swap. There are a few threads on this subject; it allows you to keep the existing chassis but replace the tube with one from a tv set that is the same size. In most cases, you have to take the yoke from the burned tube and put it on the new tube. Like I said, there are good threads on the subject if ya search for 'em and they will explain it in greater detail.

Find a suitable TV and swap the tube. What kind of monitor do you have? There are some that have easily available drop-in donors.

In theory, you could run the tube overdriven and use a custom-made pattern generator to burn the unburned phosphors for a more even appearance... nobody's actually tried it though. Conventional wisdom is, you leave it, swap the tube, or get a new monitor.
