Can we please have a dedicated Mame, multi and other craptacular games forum ?

I think it's fairly obvious this forum is not about console games just like it should be fairly obvious it's not about mame, multi vector crap and all the other abominations people wanna thinly disguise as classic arcade games.

I think it comes down to the simple FACT that many of us cannot afford, nor have the room for, 48 classic arcade machines and therefore have a 48 multi game PCB in a favourite.

Also, I was asked to help with the artwork for the multi vector project because I love designing art to help others out, so I take your comments kinda personally. Hell, I don't even have a vector machine but I would imagine trying to source and/or afford the 5-10 games these guys LOVE to play would be impossible, so playing them on 1 machine is their only solution. And its a perfectly good solutuion at that.

And as someone posted above, many of us started out with MAME and used to hang out at BYOAC but now we collect the classics. I am one of those and proud of it. I don't have a MAME machine but do have several classics which have been imported to NZ from the USA and I plan on getting a few more too.

So, take a chill pill mate and if you see a MAME/Multi thread, don't read it because we don't need comments like this here.

MAME actually keeps the spirit, history, and knowledge of these games alive more so than one guy restoring one game at a time in his garage. Yes, killing a classic in the process might be questionable, but at the end of the day, the history of gaming is INDEED being preserved. My young kids have been exposed to gaming classics that I would never own because of MAME. So, there is something to be said about its relevance in the preservation of gaming history.

Do you know of any relevant threads you could bump to the top to help me further understand your point? I have a hard time with the search feature. Thanks!

Oh why that hate against mame??
I'm quite real and absolutely no faker with my hardcore cellar game room.

Ok trust me on this: Mame is allright!! and when you got shit else its awesome.
Tell you why:

In 97 I was allowed to surf the net an hour a day and download on 3,5 discs at an educational center here in Amsterdam because we had no internet @ home, I had just built my first pc at home with second hand parts because we was to damn poor to buy a brand new one, took me a year to save up for parts and with what goal did I built the PC and surf the net at the educational center??

MAME
&
ROMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep.

My Arcades and my beloved Machines long gone!!
I miss my games!!!! I wanna play em again.

I find out about MAME, I try, I happy to finally have the real version in my home.

When it all worked out I went out looking if there were any arcade machines left.
The rest is history.

Anyone, please stop attacking mame, Please.

mame/1069 whatever thing it is

What is the different between these boards why are the boards sold here less hated then the others. Why we are soo bad people for owning one of them.

seems like the 60-1 and others get more respect then the 1069 systems here why is that?

Those are cheaper knock offs then the 1069 system.

whos game room can fit 1069 games or more in it?

I am admittedly biased because I have a MAME cab, and I really enjoy it, but I don't see the problem. Just because something is posted doesn't mean you have to read it. I see posts all the time that either annoy or bore me, and all you need to do is stop reading when they reach that point.

I agree that Konami 4 player cabs are the best for MAME for those who are interested. Make your own CP, and if you want, save the original to reuse in the future. My MAME cab could be converted back by replacing the cp (3 bolts) and unplugging the jpac and plugging in the game board.

MAME does not require any terrible mods any more than restoring a classic requires terrible craftsmanship. Both require at least a little talent to make it look nice.

BYOAC is a great site, but I don't see anything wrong with MAME discussion here as well.

BTW, if a game doesn't feel right in MAME, you are using the wrong controller. If you put a Happs super on your dedicated cab, it will feel the same. If the actual emulation is wrong, report it to mametesters. They don't have the luxury of comparing to the original in most cases, so they probably don't know. ano guarantee someone will want to take the time, but at least the problem will be known.

must not have any foreign friends.
my old band had a record label from groningen do our last full length LP (album)
i read ya loud and clear!

the type of music we play isnt appreciated as much here in the states as it is overseas. we basically take 60s garage rock and mix it with 70s punk, recorded all analog on tape. there arent many record labels that release new vinyl, its mostly CDs nowadays. (my band was the evolutions)

http://www.grunnenrocks.nl/label/n/nofuckinchancerecords.htm

anyways, my story is similar to yours. i appreciate what you are saying. i think most of the people who dislike mame here are scared of it because they are too stupid to work a computer. however, its probably how most people nowadays rekindle their love of classic arcade games after long periods of neglect. i doubt most people in general are even aware of the dwindling numbers of arcades, or realize the impact it will have on the ability to play these games on their original hardware and with the original controls, or why any of that is any big deal. i know i didnt know or care a couple years ago.

i think its awesome you dedicated so much time and effort just to being able to play these classic games, especially when it was alot more difficult to do so than it is today.

I'm quite stupid with computers but back then I SO MUCH wanted to play the games again and hear the music that I dedicated days and nights to making it work, starting in DOS and typing comands like "no scanlines" I do not remeber that much about it but awesome thing was that it all happened only 7 YEAR AFTER THE END OF THE 80's.

Wow well said, you the same Bradd? :)
The abilty to play them on the original hardware and original controls.
This is also my reason to prefer the Real thing over mame.
Some boards play way better then mame.
When I play shinobi I can feel a difference in the response time of the action buttons.
Space Harrier I never play on Mame, for that game I want original controls and a sitdown.

Thanks, well sounds like you been there as well.
Anybody doing anything with love for old arcade games is awesome imo and that's why imo MAME is no bad thing.

Oh about that record label your band is asigned too, yep that's an independent record label. We also don't know to much about those here as well.
Sometimes bands or artists from small record labeles do make it bigger over here.

yes, and here in the states there is noone who would release our music! so your independent record labels were far more preferable than our domestic independent ones who wanted nothing to do with us at all! thats why i say its appreciated more over there, because here it isnt appreciated at all!

Maybe we are just a little bit more open minded over here???

There's no doubt in my mind that 99% of the people here would rather have dedicated cabs over a mame or multis. But for a lot of us, we cannot afford it. Also, I wasnt fortunate enough to experience the arcade scene in the 80s(I was born in 86), so having a machine with pretty much every classic possible is great because I can play games that i never even heard of, and find new favorites, then one day when im rich and have a huge basement, I can add the dedicated machine. Agreed that BYOAC might be better to discuss certain topics about mame, but ever since i discovered klov, i havent ventured over there. Keep the topics in the general discussion area. If a topic about mame/multis pushes your buttons soooo bad for whatever reason, simply scroll to the next thread. It's that simple.

I can't help but wonder if some on this forum actually play their games or just think of them as museum showpieces.

One of my other hobbies is my 1980 MGB. When I go to car shows with it, you always have the people (not me) that decide to bring their car in on a trailer, drop it on the show field, and then buff it/shoo people away from it all day so as to not have them possibly scratch or dent their Trailer Queen.

I can't help but wonder to myself, where's the fun in that? These things are meant to be driven.

Reminds me of the time my brother went to visit my dad while pops was selling some parts at a Car Show. My brother rolled in, and the parking guy waved him around to show him where to park. When my brother got there, they asked him for his registration. My brother was like Why the fuck do you need my registration? They were like, ohh you arn't showing your 1996 saab 900? You gotta go over there.

The perfect cabs to convert to MAME are either dynamos, Konami 4 player cabs, or Solitaire Challenge cabs. For some reason, converted Tappers, Centipedes, Trons, and Burgertimes never look really right with 37 different control types and 56 extra buttons on the panels.

Ahh, you can do a multi/mame and still do it classy.

Not a tapper... but most others.

This discussion reminds me of some other age old debates that will never be decided:

Pepsi vs. Coke
PC vs. Mac
Tastes Great vs. Less Filling

Don't like the Mame thread? Don't read it...

MAME is MURDER

I've seen way more classics murdered by half-ass operator conversions than MAME.
If you're gonna go that route, at least be honest about it.
