Can we please have a dedicated Mame, multi and other craptacular games forum ?

Thanks for proving my point about how many mame posts there are on here and thanks for getting yourself banned. ICANHASBUMPMAMETHREADSZOMGOMGWTFBBQ !!!

Well, unlike this post, at least theyre all related to the board title. Maybe we need a bitch and moan board. You can be the moderator :)

All this crying about mame and multis pisses me off.
I am probably as old or older than most on this board, I actually played these games as they came out. Having an original cabinet for some games is a must(Tron for example) but unlike some morons here who seem to equate their "original game collection" with their penis size, I enjoy the games for the games. Being able to have 60 games in one cabinet to play is awesome.

So if someone wants a mame or a multi then good for them. I enjoy seeing them and reading about them.

It was done in jest, it's not a regular thing - not a real issue especially since he's a regular member. Lame.

Truth be told, I was banned because they thought my account was hacked. As soon as they realized it wasn't, they unbanned me. So, it's all good.

I can understand AR's wanting to try to keep this forum a classic forum. However it's in the best interest for us to have an all inclusive forum as it brings in lots of information on all fronts. Do I love classic arcades?? Yes. Do I want a mame machine?? Yes. Do I want to know how to make a touch screen jukebox??? Yes yes. And KLOV is the only place that has the minds and quick answers I want ! So expand the forum.

I too would be in favor of a MAME/multi forum... there does seem to be enough talk about these things to warrant their own section. If its existence would minimize the number of overly educational "MAME sucks!" "No it doesn't!" threads, I'd be all for it!

I can't help but wonder if some on this forum actually play their games or just think of them as museum showpieces.

One of my other hobbies is my 1980 MGB. When I go to car shows with it, you always have the people (not me) that decide to bring their car in on a trailer, drop it on the show field, and then buff it/shoo people away from it all day so as to not have them possibly scratch or dent their Trailer Queen.

I can't help but wonder to myself, where's the fun in that? These things are meant to be driven.

I agree I play my games often. Normally, I would have made the point that my classics always break down enough during the year that its a money drain where as my MAME set up has maximum game play for no upkeep. Of course the motherboard crapped out on the mame and when I put a new one in it didn't want to sync with my arcade monitor, so there can be some draw backs . Switched that cab to a Multi set up for now. Btw I have about 8 dedicated cabs which I love, but I like to play more games than my arcade will hold so there will be another mame unit in the future.

Interesting idea...
Maybe if there were a place here where people could discuss mames instead of just bashing them, there might be some interest. There's a "grey area" between BYOAC where most of the mames are attempting to play 100's of games with gigantic CP's and "dedicated mames" in unhacked classic cabinets sometimes posted here that bring an old game "back to life". Honestly, multi's are just a boring subject about "flipping" games IMO. Multi's do not deserve their own board.

Keep scrolling there is a shit load of Mame post!!!!! look

There is now, but there was not when the post was written.

After this thread went on a little bit, one of the KLOV members thought it would be funny to bump a bunch of old threads - some of them as far back as 2002 - associated with MAME to the top of the list. I don't know if they were trying to get a rise out of the person complaining, or just trying to prove that MAME posts exist on the forum.

Either way, I don't know if it matters. In weeks past we've had to wade through a number of "grail", "king of kong", and other topics that probably had limited interest to many. A little bit of tolerance can go a long way.

Can we please have a dedicated Mame, multi and other craptacular games forum ?

Is this really the question? Or is the real question "Can we seperate the rich folk (who can afford a whole herd of classics and have the time/skills/funds to keep them maintained) from all others?

Im not trying to offend anyone by the way. I've befriended all sorts of collectors. Just asking a question of my own here.

(looks left, right, left again)

I am currently messing around with converting my first cabinet that was already converted to a new game to be a MAME. I have no plans to harm the cabinet I have. I plan on putting in a new control panel that will attach with the piano hinge and the locking clips. Keeping the current art, removing the screen and throwing a monitor in there. My goal is to be able to go back with ease.

I know MAME is a bit of a sore subject around these parts, but many of you know a good deal about MAME setups and could assist if you felt like it. Giving MAME its own section would reduce the clutter and be beneficial to folks who might have questions. I am still going to be looking for classics and will not mess with those. I have a few questions, but have not asked even though I bet this place would be a great deal of help.

The perfect cabs to convert to MAME are either dynamos, Konami 4 player cabs, or Solitaire Challenge cabs. For some reason, converted Tappers, Centipedes, Trons, and Burgertimes never look really right with 37 different control types and 56 extra buttons on the panels.

Thing is, BYOAC is a MUCH better place to ask mame questions, hands down. You will find answers to almost all mame questions there.
I think having mame cabinet DISCUSSIONS would be appropriate here, not just "mame bashing". "Fixing" mames belongs on BYOAC IMO.
