can we figure a way around ebay CHARGING FOR SHIPPING COST FEE

anyone got idea's on how to get around today's ebay implementation of charging us fees on the ship amount?
maybe say in ad local pick up only and not have a ship cost? and then add it to bill after auction is done? this is one of ebays worst moves ever!

Easy - offer free shipping.

I find my selling prices are easily 10-15% higher on my free shipping listings, so I don't notice the difference.

ship

if you offer free shipping your already paying the fee on the shipping as you are paying on the total sale, which includes on your end the ship cost, which is what im saying we should not do lol

ebay long pushed for free shipping as this as the reason, they were then getting 9% of the total, in fact getting 9% on the shipping costs with free shipping. a eg of this
say i was going to sell a xevious control panel before with a $5 start, and $20 shipping, i was charged on the $5 not the $20shipping, now if i list the same panel at $25 start with free shipping, my fee's have gone up 400% as a result

OK I get it now. Clever way to increase fee structure.

Honestly, a good part of my sales lately have happened outside of the eBay system. Prospect contacts me about said item, and I ask for prospects email address.

The rest happens outside of eBay. Eventually the listing gets pulled, b/c I've sold the item and received payment via Paypal gift. The only fees I've incurred is the listing fees.

well now with free shipping I wont have to combine and cut a deal on multiple items, so it really works out good for me as I dont really do more then 50 auctions a month.

Quit selling on Ebay - duh...

after my last 2 sales (last week), i won't be using ebay anymore (for selling). the fee's are outrageous, i haven't sold since before they added the final value fee and to see that they are tacking a fee onto your shipping charges is just beyond me.

i listed 4 items, 2 sold, only 1 was over 60$ and got whacked with over 20$ in fee's. where does that leave room to actually make money!?!

I've been having far better luck on CL or via forums like this anyways and it's completely free. eBay needs to get their shit together.

i'd be more willing to pay the fee's if ebay was doing more than just being a place where the auction that I PUT TOGETHER is listed, example being if they did the research and put together the auction page with me just giving them some info on the item (like any other auction place would).

The buyers are the ones who lose out. Sellers will just increase shipping fees to make up the difference.

problem with that is then sellers lose buyers, in this economy if it's not almost free nobody wants it.

You'll see some deals on shipping for a little while (as in being lower than the competition), but over the next few weeks/months they'll start averaging up. The margins just aren't wide enough for low volume sellers to eat the cost.

If you already offered free shipping, as my company does, the fees actually went down considerably.

fees

the fees dont go down with free shipping, they went up alot, but they enjoy the illusion they went down

The fee percentages went down with the change. That is a fact. If you already offered free shipping you only benefit from the new policy.

fees

the fees did not go down you are charged the 9% on the overall transaction total item plus ship cost , wether you have free shipping or not does not matter

ebay should disclose the fee percentages on the sale page so buyer can see it clearly - a bit like the "buyers premium" seen in some auction houses. add the fees detail to your sale page too

Paypal now charges a fee for a gift. Has been for months. It gives the purchaser the option to eat the fee themselves or send it to the seller. I no longer do gift transactions and stick with goods.

I'm not defending paypal. I hate paypal and don't trust them. But I just checked their posted fee structure and you are mistaken. Personal gifts from an existing balance are still free for both sender and receiver.
