Can this price be right??

It's offered at that price. Until someone buys it, that price is meaningless. I don't know how much this game is worth, but in my experience, most buy-it-now sales on eBay are overpriced.

Depending on location $250 to $400 would be what I'd value that machine at. He's fishing for a sucker...

RUTROW! I don't care who you are...that is funny right there... :001_sbiggrin:

I understand there is a huge difference in pricing retail vs non, but it would be interesting to know how a retail proprietor chooses a price for each game. Is there a set markup based on overhead or is it a "last price obtained"/"retail market value" system?

Read the decription, you are paying for there knowledge and not buying from someone in there basement. I feel sorry for the person who does not know better and buys it for there kids.

Didn't notice it was Todd...

But lets be clear. RETAIL = fishing for suckers... That's just part of the game. Consider retailers professional anglers vs the CL douchebag overlisting their product... who is could be considered the casual fisherman.

RETAIL does offer some benefits over private party. Usually there is some warranty period... usually you can rest assured that the game has been gone through (again, usually, not alwayss)... etc. That said, a 100%+ markup is still a 100%+ markup.

Anyone "in the know" would be a fool to waste their time with retail... unless they just don't care about price.

That would be like a produce farmer going to Albertsons to buy their produce.

Retail has it's place. Particularly if you are buying extremely hard to find (or hard to find working) games that come with guarantees/warranties. It's also pretty much just about the ONLY way you can go on new equipment, like Stern Pinball machines. Most people around here are looking for "steals", though. They especially like to come on here and rub it in everyone's face...

Todd does give away free cabinets for people looking for "projects", but when he sells a game, he need to make enough on it to cover lots of expenses that a Craigslist seller does not have. Speaking of which, I truly wish the 60-in-1 in a $5 cabinet from "dead row" at the last Superauction would just go ahead and DIE OUT...

Please don't take my comment as disparaging Todd. Far from it. Yes, Retail has it's place... but not for many who visit this site.

Todd does give away free cabinets...

We all know Todd is a philanthropic guy who both gives to charity and offers free junk cabs, but I always chuckle at how quick people are to mention the free cab thing. :001_scool:

I don't know Todd personally, but am glad he is able to support his family and retain employees in a down economy. Those are the praises I'd rather hear more about...
The "but he gives empty cabs away for free" thing is starting to feel like the "I'm not racist....I have friends who are black" standby....it's unnecessary :001_ssmile:

Can't blame a guy for trying to make a buck, especially at Christmas....but we can still give him a ribbing here for it on occasion...and when he actually sells it at that price he can give us all a good ribbing for dogging his pricepoint :001_sbiggrin:

Todd is doing something that others are not... He's operating a website and has a real phone # you can call to order things and for support.

He's a retailer and serves a need to his customer base which are folks that want to buy a game that looks great in their upscale homes and just have it work. They aren't the kind of folks that scour CL daily for "hot buys" or machines that they have to fix and refurb themselves.

It's similar to what Dale does too. They want their customers to be happy with their purchase and to call them about any game they desire to buy which they will go find, clean, polish, refurb, etc... before delivering it with a warranty.

They aren't servicing many DIY customers. That's not their target market for the higher end sales.

regardless of whatever.. IT WILL NEVER SELL FOR THAT PRICE in that condition.. i could see if it was COMPLETLY restored, but it aint!! He will pay more in ebay fees for listing the item then he will selling it

Yeah...don't get me wrong either....I'm not dogging Todd by any means.
His prices are actually extremely reasonable comparative to many other retailers. And, as you said, retail definitely works for the customers you described and folks like Grandma Betty who just want to play a game of Ms Pac-Man without having to cap a monitor, rebuild a power supply, etc.
KLOV members are definitely not his target clientele...If the cheap bastages here were, he'd be out of business pretty quick. :001_sbiggrin:

Hence the MAKE AN OFFER angle. See, he prices it high... for two reasons. (1) There is a possibility that some non-gamer who remembers playing that game BITD and has a lot of extra dough who just MAY Buy It Now...

But more likely...

(2) He gets a newb who's not a complete idiot but remembers the game and wants it... but he knows that TNT will take less than the BIN price... hence the MAKE AN OFFER price... so he figures, hell, I'll offer 70% of what the BIN is and see if he bites... not realizing that 70% of the BIN price is still quite high (for us collectors)...

NOW... that particular cab isn't the best example of what a retail cab should look like... but it's priced (retail) accordingly. A fully restored game would likely be priced at $1599 or some such number...
