I am in need of an 8 way joystick for a gaplus restore and found this in my stash of misc parts box. If i remember correctly i pulled this out of a dig dug.

Would this work as an 8 way joystick?

Move the stick at an angle and see if it hits 2 switches at once, if yes it's an 8 way.

My restore has not begun and i do not have a game to try this in, that is why im asking to see if anyone has had any experience with this type of joystick being used as an 8 way.

Doesn't need to be in a game, flip it over, push the stick at an angle and if the actuator hits 2 switches at once, it's 8 way. If you can only get it to hit one switch at a time, it's 4 way.

That's a Coin Controls stick (aka Sega stick, as it was used in many Sega games). See herre:

However, there are a few variants. The 8-way ones usually have a square restrictor hole in the bottom (which allows the stick to get in the corners, and activate two switches at once, for the diagonals).

That stick has a round hole, so it's not clear if you can activate two switches at once. Try going diagonal, and if you can close two switches at the same time, it's an 8-way. My guess is that it isn't, but I can't tell for sure.

Aaahhh...ok...i kinda figured that but wasnt sure it would react that way in gameplay. Thanks.

It wont work...i can only engage one switch on any diagnoal motion...even with big accuator....so much for that idea.
