I got two games yesterday that I think are cut corner Dynamo's but I am not sure. Are they the cabs that have the corner ends angled on the control panel hence the name? These are the first I have ever gotten which is why I am not knowledgeable about them. Secondly I want to see what a true dynamo cab looks like in case my cabs may have just cut corner cp's, but the cabs are from something else. One cab has a small access hole in the rear and thats it, it also has a fold down panel inside that gives access to the PCB, its also heavy as hell. Now, the other cab has the same CP but has the typical large back door and is way lighter in weight. I guess I have to post pics for you guys to truly identify them. Can anyone post pics of a true Dynamo?

Pics will help. There are a couple different versions so if we could get pics it will help narrow it down or rule out what you have.

I like Dynamos for some conversions

Like 2600 said, there are a few different Dynamo cabs. The first one definitely sounds like the Dynamo Benchmark cab. I have a couple of them and they work out well for coversions I think. The pull out panel for the PCB is easy to get to. I have just stripped and refinished 3 dynamo cut corner CPs this week. Lots of work, but looking forward to getting the new art on them and getting them back into the fleet. I do have a 19" monitor cab with a dynamo cut corner CP. It has the full back door as well, so possibly a Dynamo or maybe just a cab they used a cut corner CP on. I really need a nice CAD file of the cut corner CP, but have not been able to locate one. I hate to have to cut the corners out on new artwork. If anyone as has access to a file with the CP schematic that I can provide to Scott at Mamemarquees, that would be amazing!

There were also the ealry Data East cabs like Karate Champ, Commando, Karnov which had a very similar look. The give away is the cut and length of the little CP angles.

Okay here's what I have. The Neo has the wide back door, the other is the one with the small opening.

Both are considered cut-corner cabs. The one with the small door has a bull out "tray" attached to the control panel... right?

second cab.............

There were tons of different Dynamo cabs, also they made the cabinets for a lot of the companies to release 'semi' dedicated games in, like that SF2 champion edition you posted above may have came straight from Capcom like that. It's not really dedicated but it's about as close as it gets with that game.

Lots of Dynamo cabs actually are labeled. If you look on the back or inside near the power transformer sometimes you'll see a metal plate that says Dynamo on it.

There is a badge on the back that says... Made by Dynamo corp Capcom Street fighter 3 but it has SF2 side art and PCB in it.... weird.

On the cab that I have pictured in post #7 I want to replace this control panel and redo the cab as a multi jamma. Are these cut corner CP's hard to come by, and if so what other control panel could I use to replace it? I want a CP that would use two buttons and a joy on each side and 2 buttons for 1 and 2 player start.

Yes, Street Fighter 3 was the original (pre-release) name of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition; and that's how Dynamo labeled the dedicated SFII:CE machines (note the 1992 date; the real SFIII didn't come out until 1997). So what you have there is a dedicated SFII:CE which still has the original sideart and CPO. The cabinet is a Dynamo HS-5 (you should see "HS5" in parentheses on the label, right after "Street Fighter 3":

I would restore that machine if it was mine.

Your other Dynamo is an HS-1. That cabinet was first used as the dedicated cabinet for Ikari Warriors, and has been used for other games, like Double Dragon II. It is also one of the three Dynamo cabinets that Capcom intended their Street Fighter II: The World Warrior kits to be installed in.

Oh!! I am definately restoring it. It just needs the monitor chassis rebuilt and new joysticks. What are your thoughts on what I posted for the HS-1?

I would make the HS-1 an Ikari Warriors (there's a good chance that that is what it was originally; look at the underside of the control panel to see if it originally had holes for the Ikari Warriors control scheme), but that would be a big expense, and I don't even know if you like that game.

It also works fine as a generic JAMMA or Neo Geo cabinet. Whoever converted it to a Neo Geo cabinet "wrong-handed" the player 2 controls though; which sucks six ways from Sunday. That would definitely have to go if it were mine.

The second player controller is the only thing that bothers me about it and the button layout. What you mentioned is exactly what I want to do to it, generic jamma, but multi slot. I plan to strip it completely bare on the outside for repaint and replace the panel, or re-drill new holes to how I want them but there are already so many holes there is really nothing left of the panel. This is the reason why I want to replace the panel completely with something fresh.

You should find someone with welding skills to patch the old holes in the CP. You could even cut out the whole top part of it and weld in a single new piece of 16 gauge steel; then grind/sand the seams, skim some Bondo, and paint it with Rustoleum. Then it would be ready for new holes and a new control panel overlay.

Even if you find a replacement cut corner CP, it will already have its own set of holes, most likely not in the arrangement that you want.

I thought about maybe filling the holes with JB weld and sanding it down lol

You can do that too; but JB Weld pieces of sheet metal behind the holes, and then skim the tops of the holes with Bondo. This isn't ideal however, especially if your new holes will be anywhere near the old ones that you patched; because the additional thickness of the patches on the bottom can interfere with mounting Joysticks and buttons. Welding patches in flush is the proper way to do it (the same way it is done to repair rust holes in car bodies).
