Can someone help me pallet a game for the Arcade Hall of Fame event

Ok,
So long story short. I saw a post online made by Walter Day from Twin Galaxies that they are looking for people who would like to donate an arcade machine for the Big Bang 2010 Arcade Hall of Fame event in Ottumwa, IA in August. I decided to contact Walter Day via email to let him know I would like to donate my Space Invaders Deluxe machine to the Hall of Fame event.

I received a personal phone call from both Walter Day and Billy Mitchell today and basically Billy said if I can get the game palleted then he could most likely find someone in my region that he contracts with through the hot sauces he sells to come pick up the game and take it to Ottumwa. Walter said he would have a Space Invaders Deluxe contest presented by my name and would be sending me free four days passes to the event for my donation. He's also sending off some signed posters from past events and Ricky's hot sauces.

So is there anyone local that would be willing to give me a hand and help pallet my Space Invaders Deluxe machine?? I think I can get a wood pallet for the bottom of the game but beyond that I have never shipped any arcade machine and have no idea what to do. If theres any thoughtful KLOVers out there that can assist in any way I would appreciate it!

I would also encourage you to donate a game! Fortunately I have relatives in Iowa so I'll be able to attend the event and go to the hall of fame induction ceremony.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

If you can get them back after the show, I'd say some ratcheting straps would be a good way to hold the game to the pallet. Just make them nice and tight without making it so tight that you crush your cab.

I've never shipped a game but used to work with shipping and receiving of many large items at a previous job. Most things that were palleted fell into two categories. #1 Those that had some cardboard and shrink wrap for protection and other than that were basically strapped to the pallet with metal strapping. #2 those that had a full crate. For protection purposes a full crate will always be the better option but it is also more expensive to build one. I get the impression that most companies and people who ship games just strap them to a pallet and do not crate them. As for the suggestion of using ratchet tie downs like we use when we move games. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad idea. It's certainly easy but remember when we move games we keep an eye on them and if we saw a bad strap or one coming loose we would tighten or replace it. I assure you that 99% of shipping companies will not make an effort to fix the strap if it comes loose. Not saying metal strapping can't break but over the course of 4 years and many trailers I unloaded I really don't remember many metal straps that broke or fell out of place. Of course if you use any metal strapping you need to put something between the strap and the game or you will definitely have damage from the strap digging into the cab.

Yea, I think I have access to a pallet and just need to buy some cheaper tie downs. Does anyone have a good resource for a roll of stretch wrap? Would a 500ft spool cover it? I was thinking of going for a 12" x 500ft spool. I hope Mr. Mitchell can get one of his cohorts to pick this thing up so it was worth my effort.

Anyone else plan on attending the Big Bang event in Ottumwa? Sounds like its going to be awesome!
