Before I pop $17 from Mr. R for a new width coil for a G07, I have some other scrap chassis with some width coils to spare. Do width coils have different ratings or can I just pop another one (from a late 80s HP monitor) in its place?

The G07 width coil has four legs in a square layout. Others (like for the 4900) have about 6 in a circular layout.

If you have another G07, you can swap one from there...

From what I can see, the G07 has 2 legs with the copper wire and the other 2 which I am assuming are grounds. The other width coil I have available also has 2 legs with copper and 2 legs with ground, but in a crescent shape. If I run jumper wires to the correct place and make sure the coil doesnt flop around loose, would that work?

Depends on the windings of the coil. If they have different windings, you'll obviously get different result. You can try it if you want, but I'm not telling you to...

If you can find one that ohms out the same and mounts the same it should work. Problem is there are sooo many different ones this is usually tough to do. I managed to find one that worked on a 4600 once. I think it came off a kortek or something like that.

So a new width coil worked seemed to help calm the jittering, but it still isnt stable. Definitely not as bad as before though. Now, I didnt replace some of the caps on the list that Bob Roberts had because they had different uF ratings. Should I replace them anyway according to Bobs list? For instance, 1 cap on the board is 1000uF, but the one that Bob gives me as a replacement is only 100uF. There are a few others that dont match also.

I think you need to double check your caps and make sure you installed the correct ones where they should be. Bobs G07 cap kits are spot on and the only ones it doesnt include is the bipolars and the filter cap. Do not substitute values. You can increase the voltage on them, which some caps in bobs kit does.
Also, are you positive you got a GO7 kit?

I am positive I didnt screw up with putting caps in. I am always overly careful. But even the sheet of paper that came with it says that cap so-&-so at CXXX is a XXXuF but the one already on the board says differently. Everyone makes mistakes, but I double checked and everything I did was correct thusfar.

Have you checked it against the schematic? It is possible that someone before you replaced the cap with one of an incorrect voltage. I just recapped a WG4900 chassis and seven of the caps were incorrect...

As a general rule, if the chassis has been recapped before I pay no attention to the values on the caps I pull out. Refer to the manual and verify all your caps. I have seen many recapped chassis with incorrect values on them, I think ops used whatever the closest they could find.

I found the manuals for the exact one I have, the G07-CBO rev. 904, but the caps in question (C517 and C518) arent listed in the parts list and I am having trouble finding schematics rather than cap maps. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I put the caps in, resoldered some cold joints I found and it worked perfectly and it solved the problem.

Broke the neck of the tube putting it back in the cabinet though. Game over. Thanks for the help everyone.

You didn't pull the monitor out did you? The G07 chassis is so easy to remove with the monitor in the cab.... At least every one I have run accross....

Sory to hear another good crt monitor bit the dust.....
