Can I replace a Disc Capacitor with a Can Capacitor?

As long as the the units V and uF are the same??? I don't want to wait for a replacement.

Disc and can are kinda generic terms. With that said.....a dics cap is general a ceramic cap, a can cap is generally an electrolytic cap. Two totally different things.....and not interchangeable.

Yes ceramic disc. and yah I figured.

A capacitor is a capacitor no matter what material it is made from. Sure they have better types for different requirements, but they function the same.

Yes, they all store electrical charge... but different types can have very different limitations.

For example, ceramic caps can handle voltage applied either way... electrolytics do not take kindly to reverse polarity.

can you use a poly film cap in the place of a ceramic one? Both are non polar.

Poly / film? Yes, generally.

Safety caps should only be replaced with safety caps though... and strict tolerance caps should be replaced with similar ones.

As for ceramic/electrolytic? You can replace a ceramic with a bipolar electrolytic, but it'll cost you a lot more money than a simple ceramic cap.
