Can I put an LCD panel/monitor in a Missile Command

I want to replace the monitor and am looking at options.

Also have a centipedes to do next.

Anyone got any advice?

Thanks

Is that sarcasm?

I was a little worried about the question.

The idea of putting an LCD in a classic game is a subject that people get very passionate about.

It can be done. You will need a CGA to VGA convertor and an LCD type bezel/shroud for the monitor. Mounting it will be different from the CRT monitor, but LCD monitors are so light that fabricating a mount is fairly easy.

reasonable people disagree on how they look.

I think they look like crap

Its your game, do what you want and dont worry about what other people think... Sacrilegious, FEH!

That said, theres an open frame 19" LCD that you can buy that will scan down to CGA but they are not cheap. The monitor is about $400.00 and the mounting kit is around $50.00. The other downside is the angle of view. These LCD's SUCK at any other angle other then straight on.

I put one in a Millipede and I think it looks pretty good.

You can put an LCD in anything if you really want! LOL!!!

Cocktails for example, I do not like them. You have to be on top of it to see the screen more or less.

I did it after much time and $$$ spent trying to fix 25"..

I really tried to save my 25" hantarax polo monitor....cap kit, new chassis, donor tubes, etc...no luck

This is a cabinet I plan on keeping for some time.

I bot a 26" monitor from geeks.com for $150 delivered...they occassionally have a 28" 16:10 for around $200 that I will get next.

So, I bot a cga to vga converter (around $40)
I then got creative and picked up some drywall mounting brackets from Home Depot (around $6)

I couldn't find a bezel that I liked - so I ended up getting tint from Pep Boys for the glass. It is the removable type.

I ended up mounting the monitor straight up - when I angled it, it was hard to see unless you were looking dead on.

Opinion goes both ways - some people I have over love it...I also have 3 other cabinets that same people think are dull compared to the lcd...

I mainly use the lcd for my 1315 in 1 multigame which does not need the cga/vga converter.

Let me know if you have any questions,
Chris

You can usually pay to have someone fix your CRT monitor for a lot less than the money you'd spend on an LCD, adapter, and mounting hardware.

Even if you were missing a complete monitor, you could probably buy a used working monitor for quite a bit less than the LCD setup...
