Can I put a 25" monitor in a 19" Galpus Cabinet?

I just bought a Gaplus in what look like a dedicated cabinet. Looks like they cut up a white Galaga to make it. It currently has a 19" monitor with some major burn in. I have a 25" lores spare out of a golden tee that I was thinking about using to replace the 19".

Has anyone done something similar? If so what modifications did you do?

Thanks,
Mark

I am sure someone will chime in with some technical advice.

I personally think the games that were intended for a 19" monitor look stupid with a 25.

I've seen a 25" crammed in a Ms Pac before. I believe you have to flatten the mounting angle to get it not to hit the back door though. Obviously you need to move the mounting bolt holes anyway.

We need pics of this thing. Best guess, it sounds like you have a Galaga 88 cab. But if its shaped like an original galaga, and has the black plastic monitor backing, you have one of the rare white galagas that started out as a Bosconian and then became a Galaga. Either way, I would say restore it to its former glory. Either Bosconian or Galaga. Remember, just because you can do a thing, doesn't mean that you should, nor does it make it a good idea. But hey, that's just my 2 bits. But on the flip side, Galaga3/Gaplus is a hell of a game. Does your cab have the up and down joystick action or is it simply left and right.

there are 25" galaxians out there, so it should be doable. You might have to notch the back door for the neckboard.

I agree it probably would look like crap. The only games look better on a 19"

It has the 8-way leaf joystick, the front of the cab is stamped 557. The side art is gone just all black, the front lower art is original. The cabinet has no water damage whatsoever. The speaker cover looks brand new. It's the nicest 1984 cabinet I have seen besides the all black painted sides. No hint of original art on the sides.

In all honesty that is why I bought it its a really nice galaga shaped cabinet.

How much bigger are the new galaga / ms. pacman games that have 25" monitors.

The game is fun to play, and the mint header is really cool lit up!

Control panel is a replacement painted black, someone did so quick cleaning with Black Spraypaint.

The bottom underneath is white, and there are white boards used inside as well.

You can cram 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag if you're creative enough but if i were you, i'd hook the monitor up outside the cabinet so you can get an idea of how craptastic the graphics are gonna look before you go through the trouble of hacking up your cabinet.

A dedicated Gaplus has full graphics and side art. Sounds like yours was a conversion. Have any pics? The monitor may not fit, the 19's are pretty damn close to the door as it is.

I wouldn't put a 25" in there either. It'll be a pain to put in, and you might wreck the cabinet.

But I'm biased because I, like the others, think they look like total ass in a Galaga - type cab.

Ok I started a new thread to discuss the nature of the cabinet. That said after playing it some more and then taking pictures and then playing some more... I have decided to sell my lores 25" monitor to buy a new 19" monitor for this game. Or trade. If your in Dallas or around Dallas and you have a NEW 19" monitor to sell or trade, let me know.

Thanks for all the feedback and let me know what you think about the cabinet here:
