wondering if it safe to piggy back a 8080 cpu ?

am repairing a artic galaxy wars board and the cpu is machine soldered to a board and not in a removable socket.

i mean i want to verify my issue isnt cpu related by doing a quick test with a known good 8080 cpu lol.

It wont damage anything but wont neccesarily tell you if its good or bad. If it boots its safe to say it was bad. If it doesnt boot the cpu can still be bad...depends on how it failed.

well i tried it.. made no difference.

maybe its a ram issue after all.

question now is how heck i know which is the ram ? this board has several ics all identivle in columns.

here is what im seeing...

garbage on a screen very similar to s space invaders.

I would try some of the posted Space Invaders RAM test techniques.
I recall that one of them had you grounding a specific pin on each RAM chip and watching the screen to see how it affects things.

I've got some sockets if you need them or want to shotgun the whole RAM set.

Good luck.
