I"ve wanted to look into stuff like this myself, but then I wouldn't be spending as much time playing and fixing games. I'd like to at some point though as I think it'd be great to update NBA Jam TE with current rosters and teams.

Anyway, I just picked up a Bad Dudes and free play is not an option. Is anyone willing to hack this for a price so I (and other obviously) could get free play? All of my games are on free play, and I don't want to really have a game down there that isn't. I should have checked before I won it.

I saw that coin up thing but id like a hack as it would make it perform as every other game does. It sucks to say just hit start to play, but this and this game you have to do this. Its nice for guests when you have consistency.

All of my machines are coin up only. 3 dishes totaling about $180 worth for people to coin away. There's no better feeling than dropping that quarter in. Most parties and get-togethers, I make money because people just drop all the change they've got anyways...and they hardly mind.

This is the easiest method to implement freeplay on this type of game. It is also what we used at the Seattle Pinball and Gameroom Show to put freeplay on games that didn't have a dip switch setting.

I guess you could wire both the 1 player and 2 player buttons up to the coin line. That way you could press the 1 player button to start a 1 player game and press the 2 player button twice to play a 2 player game.

Don't see why it wouldn't work but I've never done it...

I have ALWAYS tied one of the credit switches up to the player 2 button. It works great. And it is especially good for games that DON'T have attract modes when in "free play" mode. The last thing you want is for your idle game to have ONLY "Press 1 player or 2 player button to start game" on your screen constantly. The midway games (pacs, galagas, etc.) are like that. I would MUCH rather have the attract mode running...

Couldn't resist a minor challenge this evening so I've patched a set of bad dudes roms for free play. As a bonus, the game also continues with the animated attraction screen but will start a game if you press either p1 or p2 start buttons. I don't have the actual game here so I could only test the code change in mame.... Your mileage may vary.

Got an eprom burner? PM me and I'll hook you up. Tips and/or insider deals on pins and vectors are always appreciated.

I'm too lazy to click the links in the other posts, but when I bought my machine, the previous owner had wired a coin button to the front, next to the coin slot. Works perfectly. (You can see it in the photo of my machines in my sig.)

bad dudes? perhaps I'm missing something here, your bad dudes gets so much love that you want/need a free play hack?:)

Ok. I burned these roms and tried them out on my pcb. It works pretty good so far. I boots up and goes into attract mode. You hit the start button and the game starts. I was able to play through the entire game with no problems.

The only issue as of right now is that after the game ends it doesn't cycle back into attract mode. It says push player 1 or 2 start and has like 99 credits showing at the bottom. Could probably be tweaked to fix this one issue.

Thread resurrection. I also would like this set. Saved a Bad Dudes cab from hellish storage conditions. Thanks! Sent a PM to xray2.

Cab is kinda rough and I don't have a problem with installing a wired-in solution, but if there is a way to do it in software, that would be preferred. Probably only going to get played during public events (Freeplay, Magfest, etc). Can't see myself turning it on to rescue Ronnie again :)
(also, paying $20 plus shipping to get freeplay on a game that I got for free.......nah)
