Can I leave my rainbow cable on my dkjr if I'm using the edge connector?

Any harm done if I leave the rainbow connector on?

I use the edge connector for my dk and it still required that I use the rainbow connector.

My DK had been converted to a DK3 using a kit I suspect... The kit used an edge connector harness. So when I finally got my dk PCB and hooked it up the game did not fire up... In fact I went a little crazy trying to figure out what was up... Turned out I still need The rainbow cable... So... Easy way to find out is to remove your rainbow cable and see if everything still works... If it doesn't you know you need it?

Go.t it. I thought you only needed it if you plugged in each cable directly to the board when. using the edge connector. I guess it needs to be on regardless if using the edge connector or each individual plug into the board.

No, you ONLY need the rainbow cable that interconnects the two boards IF you are using an edge connector. If you're using the original harness there is no need for the rainbow cable. The multi-connector harness has power cables that run to both boards so the rainbow cable is not needed in that situation.

What he said.

Edge Connector = Rainbow Cable
Little Connectors = no Rainbow Cable

That is what I thought as well. One of the DKs that I used to have was wired with the individual plugs. That one had the 4 board set. IIRC, the other one had the 2 board set with edge connector and rainbow harness. That one, I reconverted from a Vs. Excitebike with an original harness. The one with the 4 board was a Popeye cabinet originally.

I bought my dkjr with the individual plugs and already had the rainbow cable attaching both boards too. It worked fine. I then went to edge connector recently and left the rainbow connector on. I guess it works both ways if you leave the rainbow cable on.

The interesting thing is that the DK3 PCBs have solder holes and markings screened on them for the headers for the multiple connector style harness but they are not populated. So, I suppose if someone wanted to (don't know why) and had the correct headers, they could populate those locations and use that style of harness but the edge connector would be a hell of a lot easier.

Yeah that is interesting, I only went to edge connector because I recently picked up a dk3 pcb and want to swap with the jr pcb every now and then.
