Can anyone provide more information about this novelty heart rate machine?

Picked this up today just for its randomness. The label says it was inspected in '85. You insert a quarter and put your finger on the sensor and it counts up to 110, then displays a number that corresponds to the range listed at the bottom. I removed the batteries--I assume they only kept the accounting data before they corroded. Anyone know where I could find a manual or some other info for it?

As a kid in the eighties I remember seeing those all around Southern California. I distinctly remember playing it myself. I also love the old school Rayovac batteries
