Hello everyone,
I was trying to find out about this arcade game which I used to play as a kid (around 1991-2), I will describe what I remember...
It was a ramboesque shoot em up with an almost top down approach. It wasn't a side scrolling one rather you keep moving in towards the screen.
The protagonist was completely visible ( viewing angle roughly 20 degrees elevated from the ground). You could move forwards or backwards within a threshold of 4-5 steps i.e. once you cross the threshold going forward, the horizon kept bringing in new graphics (smoothly, no new jump screens) and you could stop and start moving backwards as well but only to a certain extent (the same 4-5 steps).
Once you reached your backward threshold, the screen remains as is i.e. the horizon doesn't move out of focus and you just stay there. I remember missing out on weapons (bazookas!) which were lying on the ground but I couldn't collect them since I had gone past them trying to avoid bullets and other fire.
You were free to move sideways.
The game starts with the hero ( a well built guy) jumping out of an airplane and parachuting down into enemy territory. There he gets attacked by enemy soldiers. (yeah I know doesn't help much) but the opening sequence should help...lasted for less than 3 seconds but the screen was full of clouds and the character parachuted through them...
At certain points there were bunker made of sand bags where you could take cover and shoot. Also some time in the game you'd get a bazooka using which you could take out watchtowers. Once you had the bazooka the targets (watch towers, choppers, jeeps) would have a huge red square on them.
At the end of the first level you had to take down the 2 enemy jeeps which basically kept circling round n round and this huge, fancy, loaded truck/bus.
That's all I remember... any idea which game is this?
