Can a yoke go on any tube (with same pin config/crt size)?

I've got a k7000 chassis that works great but the tube i put it on is on its absolute last legs (faded missing colors, dim picture). I got this pristine TV tube that is useless for an arcade chassis (yoke is not compatible) but has same neck pin configuration. Can I swap the yoke off the k7000 tube to this TV tube? I've done a lot of tube swaps, ive never really switched yokes over to different tube before. Just wondering if its really that simple or if there are dangers (stuff will blow up)?

Thanks!

yes you can but the tricky part is getting it converged correctly, i have spent hours on some to never get them just right, but it is worth trying. there seem to be plenty of tubes out there that will be a dirrect drop in for a k7000 if you keep an eye out.

Thanks. Yes, k7000 will fit lots of stuff I agree, but i got a few of these tubes on my shelf I just want to use up, they look great, came out of nice 90s TVs. I'd hate to toss them away knowing all they needed was a yoke swap.

Silly question but- does it matter which set of deflection rings I use? Do i bring the rings from the k7000 yoke or keep the rings from the TV? The k7000 ones were pretty brittle and the main collar broke off in like 10 pieces when i tried to slide it off the end of the tube. The TV rings are in perfect shape.

use the tv rings.

mark them exactly where they were on the tube and what position they are in.

so when you put them back on you should not need to adjust them any if at all.

Well, great success here! I did use the TV rings, wish i took a picture of them before though, they are off a little still. But the tube looks fantastic! So bright! I do have some convergence going on, i'll have to order some strips to fine tune once rings are set but overall i'm really happy with the result of this!

Thanks for the help guys!

Glad it worked for you but to answer the original question, no. Yokes are mated to tubes just like they're mated to chassis. You lucked out with the gun configuration but sometimes you will not be able to get good convergence no matter what you do with strips. I'd imagine other symptoms are possible but what I've seen a couple of times in incompatible scenarios is the green will be vertically sized different than the red and blue. In other words, the entire bottom line of green will be too low and the entire top line of green will be too high. If you had a v-size pot just for the green it would be perfect but sadly for us it doesn't work like that.
