Can a combo Gameroom/kids playroom be done...pics??

Hello
Moving to a new house very soon. Beautiful gameroom style basement, I would have twice the space I have ever had/etc.. Anyways, of course My kids will need a place to play too so I have to decide what to do here.

1 - Just make a big ass room with tons of games/pins and have misc kids toys (legos/etc) laying around for me to trip over, lol

2 - Build a wall and make "Dads" room. I would be back to a limited amount of space again though (maybe 8 games or so) but it would be JUST a gameroom :)

See, with a combo game/play room I could fit a TON of games around the perimeter but it would always be kind of a mess with tons of kids toys and whatever else piling up. Not sure which route to go here, has anyone ever successfully made a combo gameroom/kids playroom and if so do you have any pics?

Thanks!!
- Brian

I just "dismantled" my game room to convert to a play room. My space wasn't really big enough to do both well - so the kid(s) won out.

I had dedicated 20 amp outlets running to switches on the walls, cool stripes painted and everything.

In the new space, I have to get by with power strips, reaching behind games to turn them on and everything really cramped together. But I do have it all closed off in a room - so I can play late at night and also keep people (mainly other kids) out. I can also leave parts and boards laying around without too much worry.

Of course, guess which room is the kids favorite.....

3. Tell the kids to play in their bedrooms like we always had to!

Yeah, thats true about being able to leave stuff out/etc.. Nothing worse than starting a little repair or something and having to quit mid way through only to spend just as much time putting everything back together so kids don't start monkeying around with it :)

are there any other places you can put their stuff at with them playing?
perhaps keep their stuff in your gameroom but make them play elsewhere?
i have 5 kids and quite a few machines so i have 9 pins in my living room
arcades are in the basement...also in the same room is my music stuff(drum set/guitar stack/bass guitar/guitars/peddle boards for them)
biggin machines and work on games in the garage.
they keep toys in the garage and in their room...
the pin living room is a really sweet way to go...most wifeys wont go for that tho...
i guess i got lucky...my wife doesnt want to argue so she just lets me do it...lol
do what makes the hpouse happy...the kids should really love games...some dont tho
which is lame...
my kids cared about arcades for a minute...then lost interest
got some pins and they seem to never stop enjoying them...

I may be doing option #1. Right now, I let the kids bring a few toys into the gameroom when I go down there. The toys go back upstairs when they are done, though. I trip on enough of them the way it is.

For fucking real. When they are old enough to rent/buy their own home they can put in as many of their own play rooms as they want.

I bought a cab recently from a guy who basically did this. They had a huge room with about 9 arcades, tons of kids toys, and a TV playing cartoons :p

It seemed to work well, but like I said, it was a huge room - at least 20'x20'. I took pics of the cabs, but not all the kid stuff:

Then again, he was selling off most of the arcades, so who knows :p

2...and the additional "3" of kids playing in their rooms isn't an option here, they're WAY too fucking loud running around upstairs.

I'd much rather have a smaller gameroom, and the kids have a basement playroom where I don't have to hear them. Infact, I do...

I think I'm going to try something like this now by default. We WERE planning a move in the very near future...but now we are staying *rolling eyes, chicks, lol.

The main issue now is I already sold all my games (didn't have anything I can't replace) and my former gameroom has already become a kids room since thats where we put all the toys/etc for the time being. I know now the odds of me getting that room back as a dedicated arcade are pretty slim...sigh...was this her plan from the beggining..hmmmm

I was going to kind of rebuild from the ground up at the new place, reason I sold everything (which everyone knows would be super fun starting from scratch again!) but now I pretty much lost my gameroom to a kids room and I have no games, sucks getting old, lol.

The room I have to work with is 12' by 28' so I might just pick a wall and line some games up and just let the kids toys run rampant and see how it goes.

I guess there is always the 2 car garage that is basically a giant storage shed???

Wow dude. Sounds like you fell for every Jedi Mind Trick. You seem to be taking it well, I'd be frigging pissed. :(

Good luck!

If I went through all of that and wound up in his situation: I'd give it two weeks of discussion...then pick a Saturday where I was picking up a new game, pile all of the kids'/wife's shit into one nice pile near the opening, then give it one big shove out the door. Bonus for them if the pile happens to avalanche into their rooms. Then wheel my new stuff back into my re-launched arcade room. >;)

Of course...depending on your wife, this may lead to divorce.
