Calling on Dokert and Timberterror's magic

True, but it also has an upper harness and a lower harness. The upper harness that connects all the boards is usually the one everyone is looking for. The reason is the edge connector and the connectors that went to the filter board always melted.
That being said, he could choose to sell the two parts seperate to make it more affordable. In most cases only people working on a converted cab will need the lower harness.

true but in my experience the majority of the people looking for a qbert are deconverting a game and need the whole harness. that's just what I've seen locally though.

One other thing that's barely been mentioned here.....if they're reproducing harnesses exact, with correct wire coloring & striping.....you're gonna have to get wire custom striped. This will get expensive. Gottlieb used (up to) three stripes a wire. No off shelf wire is made like this. To my knowledge, none ever was. Gottlieb had their own striping machines....and did their wire "in house".

Yeah, I think that was the comment about matching wire colors. I agree, it's going to be real expensive to get it exact. Short of making your own striping machine, or drawing on it with a Sharpie, it's going to be real tough. I think that getting the wire close enough is fine - you could always make a color code cross-reference chart to staple inside the back of the game.

Can't you just put those little adhesive tags on the wire every foot that say "Stripe!" "Stripe!"? :D

I have a feeling, Dave and Barry, already knew how awful this job would be, since they already looked into this.

Yes, the harness is more complex. I had the same price in mind, after hearing about the HTF materials involved. Hmmm.

The reason that it has not been mentioned, is because it is not an issue. I have already sourced the wire with correct matching colors. The cost is pretty much a non issue, even compared to the price that I pay for wire now.

Q*Bert, and all Gottlieb games seem to use roughly double the amount of wire as most other games made in the same era. Still not enough to be a deal breaker.

Color matching the wires has nothing to do with being a "purist", it has everything to do with being able to troubleshoot using the scat.
Dok

Only reason I mentioned that is because someone said the correct color wires was a factor in the cost.

Oh- I'm not bitching (too much). I bought one of your Robotron harnesses and am very happy with it.

Correct color wires and or striping adds roughly a penny per foot in cost. If it added crazy money, I would make them all with green wires.

Great, now I'll have recurring nightmares for a week...

I spent the entire summer of 1992 rewiring a Winnebago that someone decided needed to be wired up entirely in green wires. This guy used the proper gauge wire for each component, but everything was green - I mean everything. The guy had even installed green plug wires...

Not uncommon if the end user is color blind. Some ASS-CLOWN wired my Son's Joust all in white.

I doubt it was due to colorblindness - he had multiple gauges of wire run throughout the box and all were the same shade of green. It was more like he was OCD and thought that he needed it to be green for some reason. There were green pinstripes the length of the vehicle as well as green astroturf flooring.

I couldn't believe anyone actually bought that mostrosity...

But black is alright right? :D

I just used the wire that was the cheapest. It is all for me anyway. I wouldn't do that to a real harness though.

i wonder if a cheaper solution is to build the "early" style qbert harness that doesn't use the filter board? seems like it would be easier, use less wire and the filter board is junk and just causes problems anyway...

Bypassing the filter board eliminates a shot ton of connectors, makes the harness more reliable, and cuts down on the final cost.

What's the product code for this? (closest Q*Bert match) - couldn't work out their datasheet

from what I can tell, you would have to find one of their distributors and order from them. the price I found was at mouser, but they do not stock the connector.

That's what I love about KLOV.

It's absolutely amazing how suddenly, and frequently, things turn from "This will never happen!" to "Oh look, we found the parts."

Priceless. :)

805 Series FTW

Nice try Brother, but these will not work.

The Jedi Master managed to source 30/60 3.96mm edge connectors tonight.

No, don't even bother asking cause I ain't telling the source until I get my fill of them.

Hmm, well my Goog-Fu turned up multiple suppliers with stock under $6/ea. in ~5min.

I guess I'm the Jedi Grandmaster :p
