Calling all Star Wars Yoke rebuilders out there....

Alright you yoke rebuilders...I need some help/suggestions.

I am trying to replace the bumpers. In order to do that, you need to remove the three 7/64" cap screws that hold the steering assembly together. I am able to remove two of the screws, but one of them is still in there and it is mocking me. The interior of the cap screw is starting to strip. I've tried to use a pair of long nose vice grips, but it looks like I'm marring up the exterior of the cap screw. I've squirted some wd-40 and let is sit, but that is not helping either.

Any ideas? Anyone face a similar stuck cap screw in the yoke interior? What makes it difficult is the confined internal area of the yoke frame. I don't think I could get a screw extractor in place. I'm stuck....help me, please!

Hmmm... I had issues with that as well. I think you'll find that a screw extractor with a 1/4" swivel would work.

Thanks for the suggestion. Where did you pick up the swivel? The local Home Depot tool crib guy looked at me like I had two heads when I asked about one this morning...

The other thing you can try is heat. Atari used thread locker on those bolts. If it's still intact then heat should help.

I'll give heat a shot tonight...

however, the Sears guy was no help either in finding a swivel. Can you share a picture or link online? Are you talking about a universal joint?
