1. Looking to buy only one in the series I remember playing a ton of mk2 and umk3. Which is better in your opinion?
2. I've read a few other forums about fatalitys and length of time you get between 2 and 3?
3. I will be playing this solo 99.9% of the time got two kiddos under 3 so they are out.
4. Also I know someone will say both just add a run button to MK2 well I'm worthless at that kind of modding unless someone's done a vid or step by step with pics. Lol
Thanks for any feedback DKJR

MKII is the grail for the series in my opinion. I'm not a big fan of the run button from UMK3. If you like both, I would get UMK3 and just drop MKII when you feel like switching. Plus more characters on 3.

I didn't know you could just swap pcb in a regressive order so I guess I'll look for a uk3 machine.
Are there a bunch of hacks for mk2 pcbs like umk3. And which hacks are regarded as the best.

UMK3 is better vs. real opponents IMHO, but MK2 is very good vs. live players as well. MK2 is better vs. the computer. UMK3 is almost completely worthless playing against the computer, unless you want to use Ermac or Scorpion and move spam your way through the game. If you are going to be playing the computer most of the time, I would go with MK2 without a doubt.

I have an UMK3 dedicated cabinet that I can swap out other MK boards in.

I really like both games but UMK3 will be harder to find as the cab is very rare.. MKII is more common. I like MKII just a hair more cuz it was the game that really got me hooked and it was the one I played the most when I was a kid. It would be best to get something with the run button already in the machine if you dont wanna hassle with drilling holes and wiring it up in an MKII cab.. The most common cab and the most least expensive is MK4. But if your not a fan of MK4, you can sell or trade the PCB for a UMK3 and later on buy an MKII and there you go. You have a cab with run buttons already installed and 2 PCBs to choose from. I actually have an MK4 for sell as we speak... :D

I'd go with MKII, but then I wasn't a fan of MK3 or UMK3.

I mostly played 1 and 2 in the arcades. 3 kind of killed the series for me.

It's ultimately about what you feel most comfortable playing. MK3 holds more nostalgia for me, but MK2 is the favored "favorite." All the MK boards (with the exception of the Y-Unit MK1) are interchangeable in any standard Jamma cabinet with the Jamma+ harness (LP/LK/Run). You can get any MK cabinet and just swap the boards out or get a switcher like this...

There are a few hacks for mk2, rev9.1, 4.2 and challenger. Of the 3 challenger imo is the best and it gives you unlimited fatality time. If you you need some hack roms give me a shout.

I just picked up an MK II. I think mine is revision 3.1???? What was added to that one??
As you can tell, I would go with MK II.

MKIIs are a dime a dozen, and they are seem to go for a pretty cheap price, compared to it's counterparts. UMK3 is my absolute favorite, but MKII is the community favorite, it seems. When MK3 came out, a lot of fans quit moving forward with the series and just stuck with MKII, because the run button + the combo system was too much for some people. I however think UMK3 has a fantastic fighting system, and I get more fun out of bashing that AI in that than I ever would in MKII. MKII, on the other hand is the one my guests always want to play... so I guess... weigh your options there.

That sounds a lot like me...I stopped playing after MK3. I still played MK3 and of course had to own it for the SNES, but MK II has always been my favorite and most memorable. I don't think it gets any better than the MKII side art. Back when MKII came out I played on a dedicated cabinet at a local party store. My cousin lived near there so when I went to hang out with him we'd always walk there to play....there's a huge nastolgia factor for me with MKII. In fact when I saw my cousin last weekend at his wedding I had to bring up the good times we had playing MKII. He's battled me a few times on my cab, but he hasn't played in a long time.

Edit: I would agree they are probaby the most common of the series to find and I bet Midway made more than any other game in the series. There was a place local to here that had a dedicated MK3 cab (running UMK3 I think) several years ago. The place closed and I wonder where it ended up. :(

Thanks for all the feedback guys I'll be looking to get Mortal Kombat cabinet here in the future I'll probably go with one that already has the run button on it

I prefer UMK3 right now, but MK4 is growing on me. I found that the computer for MK 2 was ridiculously predictable. Try jumping back with any character except Liu Kang, Mileena, Kitana or Raiden and watch that opponent jump right after you, making it easy to destroy the computer on even the most difficult settings.
I actually have had a good time finding the weakness with different characters in UMK3 and find the 4th one to be difficult. It is the only one I don't have set on very hard.
