Mine is dedicated and has four black sticks, they are small black tops like a nintendo stick with micro switches. Yellow start buttons.

Honestly, if I could get a hold of a cheap one that doesn't have that great of art to begin with. I would totally do a BLOODSPORT version.

It's basically the same art with a different color scheme.

Technically, I think they're playing the Japanese version - Karate Dou. I have a board somewhere for that version...

KC came with the "Data East" sticks, for lack of a better term. Mine has red player buttons. I'm pretty sure this is the original configuration. Here's mine:

No, the original start buttons were yellow. At least on the later version cabs they were. I'm aware of two versions of the cabinet that Data East built. The earlier version cabinet had the smaller coin box door, and the later version used a standard over/under coin door.

Mine can be seen in one of my videos, here:

I would love a Karate Champ in my collection. The same one comes up here for some crazy amount periodically.

Took me a few years to get mine. I almost pulled the trigger on a REALLY beat up early version one about a year ago. It would have needed EXTENSIVE cabinet restoration, and it was missing LOTS of OEM parts (joysticks, bezel, marquee, etc).

I got lucky at last year's MOMA auction. There were two of them, and the crappier one of the two went first for more money. Then I scored the nicer of the two for just over $100. It went cheap because it wouldn't coin up and play - turns out the coin mechs were wired to the 'NC' connection instead of 'NO.' The monitor was also missing blue, but a cap kit fixed that. The most important part - the complete, original control panel - was there.

FYI, here's a picture of an early version Karate Champ versus a later version one. Ignore the wood handles on the first pic, I don't WTF is going on there.

Show me your CPs! Mine has a funky generic CPO and Wico red ball leaf sticks. I obtained a NOS CPO in decent shape from a fellow klover. Should I keep the red ball sticks? Most I've seen were black. What about the P1/P2 buttons? I've seen some unique yellow buttons and others with standard red or black buttons. Even the main site postings vary:

Show me whatcha got. Here's mine

DUDE! I would leave that CPO exactly the way it is! Love those generic 80's designs :)

Thanks for all the replies guys. I was thinking about potentially using these:

...but they're kinda expensive and out of stock. Any suggestions for similar ones? I might just get black ball sticks for the Wicos I have.

How about those wacky yellow Data East (I assume) buttons? Those seem quite unique. If I can't find any I suppose I could use standard yellow or red microswitch buttons.
