So I got a call tonight just before dinner from a guy I talked with over a year ago about a Popeye arcade game that he had in storage. It was about a 20 minute drive from home so I told him I'd come out and take a look at it. He says that last time he tried plugged it in, it didn't work and maybe it was just a fuse. It's been in storage since then for perhaps 5 years or so.
I had visions of finding a nice Popeye in a nice dedicated Nintendo cabinet. I know it's not one of the more sought after games, like say a Donkey Kong or Pac-Man, but it's one I played as a kid and have fond memories of it. Just about the time I'm pulling in the driveway I discover that I'd forgotten my camera. Oh well, with any luck I'll find a nice game, make a deal and have it in my garage tonight.
Upon arrival I find a rather sad looking BLACK cabinet, with no back. The cabinet itself is a bit rough. It's black with STERN painted diagonally in red paint. Anyone know what Stern game that might be from? Rust covering the speaker cover of the monitor area. Several wires cut from the board connectors. It did have a Popeye CP and marquee, an electrohome monitor, decent looking joystick and buttons. All the fuses were missing so I have no idea if anything in it worked.
He wasn't looking for money for it, but wanted to make a trade for some black light bulbs I have in storage for a haunted house he's making. I'm thinking it's probably not anything I want to tackle. If it was an original Nintendo cabinet I might've taken a chance on it. Would a Stern cabinet be good for maybe a multi-williams project? Or anything that might be worth parting out?
