Hi. Newbie here but am loving the wealth of info on the site. I picked up an atari california speed several months ago to add to my personal basement gameroom. Machine is in excellent condition and always for home use with only three previous owners. It has been working fine the past couple months but currently started having a monitor issue. Upon turning on the power switch, the unit fires up and runs through the calibrations and pedal tests. You can play for a few minutes (5-15min) and then the screen goes dark almost like a night time scence. You can barely see the screen and the machine still plays. I have also noticed faint red lines going horizontal. The monitor is a Mitsubishi and the numbers on the tag are A63LCC11X. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, shouldthis machine run thru the calibration and tests every time I turn it on? Is it a simple fix of replacing the battery?

Thanks.

I am planning to spend some time this weekend digger deeper into this issue because the kids loved playing this one and I dont wan to risk doing any damage to it. Any help or direction on this would be appreciated. I looked at it and it is a Nanao board.
Thanks.

Interesting...I am looking at buying a Space Invaders that has the exact same issue.

The seller told me that after you turn it on it plays fine for a few minutes (15 or so) then the screen goes black. After you turn it off and let everything cool off, it plays fine again for a few minutes and then goes black again. The game is still playing, it is just the screen that goes black.

Sounds pretty much like what you issue is.

IF its the monitor send the chassis to chad at arcadecup.com if you dont want to fix it yourself and he will make it look brand new. My California speed has never looked better after he got finished with it.
