I just picked up a California Speed... everything works except for the force feedback. I have a manual, but the information is limited. For example, it tells me that there's a brown and a brown/white wire coming from the motor. I assume these are power. They trace all the way back to the steering wheel board, but I don't see what the voltage on that line is (I'm assuming it's power as there is no other power source connected to the motor.

Anyone know the expected power for the motor, is it constant and are there any other points I can check on the motor or steering wheel driver board to try to determine where the issue is?

thanks,

-tom

go into the service menu and check controls. If you hold down the radio button it will turn the wheel left and right. If it doesn't do anything disconnect and meter the wires at the connection while holding the radio button again. If you have power then you motor is bad.

Yep.. I have the manual but it only mentions 25v AC at the fuses on the driver board but is that the same at the motor? I'll try your tip and test at the fuses. Thanks... Btw... Those flash drives boot up a hell of a lot faster.. don't they :)

ok, the power to this driver board that in turn powers the force feedback motor..., might it come from a 2ndary power supply in the bottom-left of the cabinet when looking through the back?

power should come from the power supply and high voltage from the big transformer on the bottom. Does the red led on the feedback board come on at all

yes, the red light is on, but... there is a molex with 3 blue wires (going to the top of the Wheel driver board) and 3 white wires (going to the subwoofer board) and they are powered by the iso transformer in the bottom left of the cab. I think that transformer is dead... so power is coming into the wheel driver board from 2 places apparently.

OK take a pic of how the ISO is wired up. If the marquee lights up then the ISO is putting out power as long as it hasn't been wired around the iso

oh I was wrong in my previous post. Go into service menu..test controls. Hold down start button and it should turn the wheel left and right. If not multimeter the connector at the feedback motor while holding the start button. It should go from positive 20ish volts to negative 20 ish and continue to cycle. If your marquee light and monitor are getting power then your ISO is good. I'm thinking for motor is bad or the connection is bad.

No need now. Finally figured out the cabinet wiring diagram on 3-3 of the manual. It clearly shows the iso transformer puts out 36vac for the steering wheel/lamp driver board and 22vac for the subwoofer board. There is no subwoofer board in the machine and the 3 22vac lines that would have gone to it are cut. The 36vac is for the ffback motor and where the Wheel board is not getting it from the iso..it's not relaying it to the motor.

With the game working with sound and the only components powered by the iso being the ffback motor and subwoofer, It took me a few attempts to trace it down.

I'm gonna grab another transformer and give it a whirl. Just an interesting note, the monitor is not powered by the iso. This is the only game I own that's newer than 1985! ..so that is strange to me but I had read in a few posts that newer monitors do not require them. Thanks for the help.
