Anyone else interested in making cabinets as a hobby/business? Hopefully the AZ guy opens up for the public soon, i know he's making cabinets for at least one other Klov member so far.
Ideally, someone on the east coast, eastern PA or NY to handle making cabinets for that area is really needed. As we all know, shipping sucks! I get tons of Pm's from people all over wanting cabinets, shipping is the big holdup. Other areas that this would be good for, are Oregon/washington state, and Georgia/north florida areas, just covers more of the country.
It isn't cheap to get started, but it's not unreasonable compared to starting other types of business. I have about 18K invested in my setup, it's easy to use and maintain, upkeep is minimal, and fits well in a 2 car garage, with 1 side being used for the machine and wood storage. If someone was really interested, i'd sell my cabinet files for a very reasonable price, 150.00 per game. At that price, you'd make back what you spent on the file and make a profit on the first one of each game you sold. Also, working in my spare time, i paid my machine off in 18 months, and only offering about 12 different cabinets.
these are vectored files, and cut ready, all layed out on individual sheets, i have 32 sets of files ready to go, and another 10 ready soon, that covers over 100 machines when you get into the cabinets like Taito that multiple games were released in. So for about 23K you'd have your entire setup, and all the files to make cabinets with. Other tools that are a necessity are a good tablesaw, a jigsaw, a small router table, and a hand router. That's really all the basics. I have modified plans too, for mspac cocktails and Galaga uprights to make them more multicade friendly, and those are included with the galaga plans. I sell a ton of multicade style cabs, probably my best seller next to quantum cabinets.
If anyone is seriously interested, PM me your number and a time to call, be glad to talk to you on the phone about it.
Also, i'm still making cabs, no plans on stopping. I'd really like to see more people have the opportunity to get new cabs, and i make some extra money with the sale of my cab files. If you purchase the cab files, any time i update or do a revision, you get those free for life. Any additional cabinet files i make after the initial ones, cab be purchased for the same price as well, 150.00 each! Thanks, Brett
