some crack head has listed a firepower for $2,000 on s/f bay area c/l.anyone feel like flagging this on principle?

One of the few things that pisses me off more than ridiculous pin prices is continous CL flagging for no good reason...
I assume no WTB listings last in your area either.

People are entitled to ask what ever they want. It's their machine and flagging someone because of a price you disagree with is flat out wrong.
These people will figure out over time that they're too high priced because it hasn't sold or they'll receive enough email offers stating real world prices which eventually they'll sell it for.

I can't preach this enough. The best way as AN HONEST buyer that is genuinely interested in purchasing is to educate the seller with facts - not baffle them with bullshit.
Show them pinpedia.com or bostonpinball.biz. Show them that you are offering what is fair market value.

Craigslist has turned into a fucking nightmare to sell anything because people feel they need to be the world price police. Don;t get me wrong, I too get infuriated seeing the same ad posted over and over and over with the same price but they have done nothing wrong. Be part of the solution - not the problem.

you make a valid point. thank you for that. however to set the record straight. i have never,or would never flag a pinball wanted ad. the 3 pins i have purchased on craigslist i gave what the seller was asking. i did not haggle on the price because the seller was asking a fair price for the pin. all the responses here have been right on the money. im just tired of people who care nothing about pinball jacking the prices so high that no working folk can ever afford them. thanks to all for your words of wisdom.

Im tired of resellers. They are ruining the hobby. 9 times out if 10 the wtb posts are resellers looking for deals and jacking up the prices. I say flag them.

A lot of the CL ads that have ridiculous prices are just from people that don't know any better. They just don't know the prices, we've all heard 'I saw one just like it on ebay for $XXX'. They just see $$$ and don't stop to think that:
a) The one they saw online didn't sell, that was just someone else asking to much
b) There's a difference in what game it is ('it was a pinball, just like this')
c) Condition

Depending on the game I'll respond to them, even with the ridiculous price. I ended up getting a GnR that way. They wanted over 4K for a hacked route game, I told them they were way off on the price. A few weeks later, and I think after a very low offer from at least 1 local reseller, they accepted a reasonable price for it.
I am suprised at some people that just never learn the value of their game. We have the same baywatch that comes up from the same guy every couple of months for the last couple years. He just won't take less than 2K for it, hope he likes it, it sure isn't moving.

I believe that most high prices on pins is due to a "second sale" ownership. Meaning that if an uninformed buyer overpaid for a machine and played it for years, when they sell it they are going to list it for what they paid. To them, the value of the machine is what they paid and not market value.
