Im needing to buy/order some wire. I typically use 22 gauge stranded color wire. I like having multiple colors, but mainly I need yellow and red. Where is the best place to get some good cheap wire?

I usually buy 25' strands from jammaboards.com but im looking for some better deals.
I dont like going to Radio Shack, they suck(They should change thier name to "We used to have Radio stuff, now we sell cell phones and the poeple that work here have no clue"), and they only have orange, green and black.

I'm in the same boat, and I'm surprised how hard it is to find a good deal on wire. You'd think we'd be able to order spools of it online from China for reasonably cheap. I ended up just buying the "Bag of 20GA 10' x 10 colors (100' total)" for $9.00 from Bob Roberts with my last order.

That waytekwire place seem to have a great deal, 250' for 7.05?
Im not sure about the differences in GPT and TWP though, Im guessing the 20 gauge GPT would be close to what most jamma harnesses use, and the TWP 22 guage is PVC coated, so it wont bend as easily?

If you want someplace you can drive too in a pinch, don't forget about Home Depot and Lowes... They have a decent wire selection.

That's an excellent price. I emailed them to see if they'll ship USPS to Canada, otherwise shipping kills the deal for me. I have no idea what GPT vs. TWP is though. They both use PVC insulation.

it looks like GPT ("general purpose") wire has a different thickness of insulation than TWP ("thin primary wire".) from some of the specs i could find, the TWP has a higher max temperature rating than GPT (125C instead of 80C.)

i'm pretty sure either would be just fine for arcade applications.

For me a local auto parts store has a good variety of colors and gauges for a better price than those places, but YMMV of course.

My local electronics store has a rack of spools (different gages, colors) that allow you to buy it by the foot. I don't know how expensive it is.. Probably not too much tho.

How many different wire colors would you get if you could order anything? And what would they be?

I know Green would be ground.
I would assume you'd use Red or Black for the 5+ V.

Black is commonly used for ground. Red for +5VDC. Bob Roberts has a page on what colors he uses and the story behind it.

Oops, I stand corrected on ground. (Was thinking of the "other" ground).

I guess I am asking for a survey of what colors you would use if you could get any color, including colors with a white stripe.
