I'm in the process of negotiating to buy a Virtua Cop 2 on Craigslist and just looking for some advice from someone who may be fairly familiar with it.

The price is looking like $135, photos (attached) show the cab is in decent shape can't really see the bottom, so I'm not sure if water damage is present or not. Seller states the game was working last time he plugged it in. But it is missing the second player gun. Are those fairly easy to find or does anyone have one for sale at a decent price?

Am I missing anything? Are there certain things I should look out for with this particular game or any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Im confused... Are you going to go check it out? Power it up and see how it performs? If it indeed plays fine and there is no water damage then $135 sounds like a good deal to me. Especially if you love the game.

Mostly just first time buyers gitters and asking for advice. Lol. This will be my first purchase of a dedicated cab and I don't want to get ahold of a lemon.

you need to test it out and run the gun test in test mode. I am 99% certain VirtuaCop2 uses sensors around the monitor like Jurassic Park 1&2 and some others and the parts are not super easy to find nor cheap, iirc.

Yes, go check the game. Make sure they game has the boards and such. Price is cheap, take it if you want it!

Guns, easy fix.

If water damage or more damage is present don't jump the gun and be patient for something else!

Seller is a good dude thats very honest about his stuff i have bought a gyrus from him in the past and it worked great. Besides 135 is cheap if the game works at all honestly.

Good to know for sure. Just never know who you're gonna find selling stuff on Craig's List.

This is incorrect.

HOTD and Virtua Cop 2 both use a different Gun I/O board and use "standard" happ45 type guns, but the sega version. The sega version was only used on these two games and is hard to find. You likely won't be able to find a "matching" sega gun. But any common happ 45 will work.

You can use this Gun I/O board on JP Lost World with some mods. To get rid of the sensors.

OP, this is a med res monitor. They are HARD to find. If you can't power it up and make sure the monitor works and the one gun works on it, walk away.

But, $135 is a steal if otherwise complete and not working. The monitor alone (working) is worth far more than that. The sega game board (working) all by itself is worth that.

I have that exact same game in that cabinet. Mine has a Nanao MS8-26SU monitor which is med rez. The guns are optical guns and their are no sensors around the monitor so it's a standard light gun game. I have heard you can use standard hap 45 cal guns but not sure if their a direct replacement or if you have to mod something. My game has the original guns and works great. If I remember the auto calibrate did not work so I had to calibrate the guns manually which took some time to do but resulted in accurate targeting guns. I got mine at an auction back in 2006 and was going to convert it to a Star Trek Voyager with a NOS kit I have but I liked the game and decided not to convert it.

That is most definitely encouraging that a Happ replacement will work. Seller states that it just needs the gun housing and sensor, which I'm hoping won't be a huge issue. Looking to pick it up either tonight or Sunday.

Picked her up earlier this evening. Everything as of right now is working great. Minimal to no water damage, side decals and CP overlay are rough but the marquee is near mint. All she needs right now is some Windex love and a second player gun which I will be fixing very soon.
