Hey guys,

So i have been on a buying spree lately and picked up a few pins that I have wanted to add to my collection for a while. I picked up a Medieval Madness, Attack From Mars and Addams Family Gold. The MM and AFM I did well on price wise and couldnt be happier with, but that AFG I haven't seen very often and really don't know what they go for. Does anyone have a good idea what these things are worth or what I should pay for one?

The machine is in nice condition no doubt, with no wear or anything, a small scratch in the back box, but its hidden well. All orginial documents an extra set of gold legs and extra nos topper. I ended up giving 6400 for the machine, I have no idea if that is good or bad and just wanted to get some opinions on if I paid too much, what its worth, or got a deal. It kinda doesn't matter since I will be keeping it myself, but just wanted to know if I jumped the gun and bought it too high.

Thanks for the info guys.

$6400 is not outrageous and pretty much par for the course. Even better deal with the extra topper and legs. Really the only difference between TAF and TAFG though is ugly mustard bumper caps, gold bar and legs, limited plaque and ROMs which randomly award a cousin hit award. If you are not super picky, you can pick up a TAF for half the price of a TAFG and you basically have the same game. You can always put gold ROMs into a regular TAF too but a lot of people don't like the gold ROMs as the awards can be game changing in a tournament format.

Okay I can deal with being par for the course on the 6400. I have an Addams that is going to be damn near mint that I was going to keep for myself but this gold came along. I figured it would only run me a little bit more to have the gold and sell this other one. The addams that will be done is all nicely clearcoated and perfect with new ramps, plastics etc. At the end of the day I am trying to build a very nice collection and figured a collection with a AFG vs a plain AF would be good.

Awesome pick ups!

You know the "pics or it didn't happen" is mandatory on the first page.... ;)

The gold version is absolutely for the collector. As stated before, it's an upgraded version of the original.

Sounds like a good deal and a hell of a start to an absolutely stellar collection! Congrats!!!

i can definately toss up a few pictures. I have a few pins listed below that I currently have and a short want list following. Is there any pins I should really add to my want list? I have played CFBL, CC, TOM and wasn't really impressed with them. Maybe the TOM, I had one for about a month and sold it, I wasn't immediately impressed, but hey maybe it would grow on me. Let me know what you guys think should be part of a great collection.

Although they are not all done this is what is going to be kept for my personal collection and what I currently own:

Family Guy
Attack From Mars
Medievil Madness
Twilight Zone Sample Version
Addams Family Gold
Funhouse Prototype
Indiana Jones

Still want to add:
Tales of Arabian Nights
Star Wars DE
Circus Voltaire
The Simpsons Pinball Party
Monster Bash

Whats different on the FH proto?
Also the TZ?
Im not versed in subtle pin differences and would like to know more
Thanks!
PS BITCHIN LINEUP!

Nice group of games, but don't forget there are other great pins that don't read like the IPDB top 10.

I have looked into a few of the other pins, but for some reason any of the Data east pins I have played really don't do much for me other than the star wars, or the Guns and Roses. I have a few of the GNR's but for what they sell for lately I don't like the pin enough to really keep it. I have actually never Played an Arabian but been told really good things. The new sterns keep disappointing me, which is sad. I had high hopes for the Transformers, but was let down a bit and please don't get me started on the AC/DC. I did end up liking the Iron Man pin, but it wasn't on the top of my list. The Dark Knight pin seems interesting, but yet to play that one.

Anyway, the Funhouse proto I picked up is one of 10 made. It has the full STEPS on the playfield and a few other differences. I have been told it actually does not play as well as the production pin, but with it being rather rare I figured it would be cool to hold on to.

The twilight sample game has a few differences such as the third magnet already installed, white clock, and a few other things.

It's just cool to have a few pins that most people have but just a different version that you don't come across every day. Seems to make a collection unique in my opinion. I end up buying and completely redoing pins to continue my collection. It has been great to find a hobby that can pay for itself with some hard work and dedication to the hobby. Not trying to get rich from the hobby, just trying to afford an awesome collection.

Good talking with ya guys.

By the way, got the AFG delivered tonight. I am kinda disappointed, the driver board and fliptronics board have been replaced with PINLED boards, and on the one side of the pin there are about 10 small screw holes where there must have been a plaque or something screwed in. I am sure I can fix it but wasn't mentioned by the seller and a few other things here and there that I wasn't expecting. Wondering if you guys think I should complain about this stuff to the seller or just keep my mouth shut and fix it. I had high hopes for the pin not needing much of any attention and there has been quite a bit I have seen right off the bat.

for 6400, I would bitch and complain for a game that claimed to be mint. Sometimes it aint about the money, it's just the principle. But such as it is - buying a game sight unseen.

He never claimed the machine to be mint, just to be in great condition. I have continued to find some things wrong with it as well. About 10 small screw holes on the one side of the pin toward the back of the machine, a few scratches on the back box sides, some small very small imperfections on the playfield, a magnet not working, a chip on the CPU that was mounted like it is expecting a flood any time soon, and the side rails have a few scratches dings here and there.

Again its an old machine, but I sat on the phone and went over the machine with the guy and asked for anything that seemed out of place. The guy doesn't seem to be shady, just doesn't know what he is looking for or at on the pin. Its a non-pinball guy looking it over vs. a pin guy looking it over. No-one is at fault, just two different perspectives. Well I guess I am at fault cause I should have looked at it prior to purchase. I just didn't want the price to keep climbing on ebay. It was the TAFG that was just on ebay a week ago that got pulled down.

guess you did well.. and while the repro boards aren't original, they're probably an improvement to the game as they're more reliable than the 20 year old original boards..

congratulations on your collection, it looks great

Everyones opinion on what constitutes "mint" or "great" condition will vary. One person's mint is another person's decent. Happens all the time when you don't or aren't able to view the machine in person. Buying a pin with only pictures and description, especially from a non-pin person, is a gamble.

Recently I was looking to buy a The Shadow, in or near CQ, and viewed alot of pics and heard/read alot of descriptions of different machines. The one I ended up buying was from a guy who does very thorough restorations and is very picky about condition. I knew I would be getting a high quality machine from him. I would have never spent the kind of money I did on a pin I couldn't view in person from a non collector.

I usually don't buy them this way and I expected some of the issues, but I really spent a ton of time with the guy trying to get the condition etc. Lesson learned. I normally am not so picky on my pin purchases, its just that I have a TAF here that is going to be absoultely mint when I am done with it and was hoping TAFG would be a solid replacement, so now the age old question begins, keep it or sell it? I suppose I could do the same thing to this gold, but at the end of the day do you think I would be devaluing the machine by fixing things up on it or should it be left all original.

So a quick update. The seller has agreed to send me 900 as a refund. So a total of 5500 for the TAFG pin. I fell a little better about the situation.
