I'm new to this restoring arcade machine thing and this site and forum have been very helpful.

I have bought a lot of parts from a few different places and my BIG gripe is that nothing comes with instructions. I bought ROM for a game and wasn't clear about how to install it, did it upside down and now the ROM is junk. Oh well live and learn.

I also bought LED buttons from Paradise arcade, which are very AWESOME, but I spent an hour on the net AND got some very helpful advise from this forum to figure out how to power them.

Why does nobody send directions?

I don't have an answer to that question, but if you're not sure about something, anything, feel free to post in the Technical Help section, there are tons of awesome people on this board who can really help newbies avoid making mistakes!

Many times some things are understood. With roms they usually go in the same direction as all of the others.

Which rom was it and for what game? I may have a replacement for you or can program one for you if I have the chip on hand.

It's a Pacman machine. I bought all 6 ROM chips. My understanding was you face all the writing the same way and the chips had stickers saying where each one went so I faced them the same way based on there labels. I didn't notice the notch at the bottom of the chip.

did you put them back in the correct way and try it out? may work but little hope.

The writing is not what is important but you now know that.

Next time don't be shy and ask questions in the general repair section, plez.

I flipped them around and all went bat crap! started blowing fuses. so yeah the ROM is dead.

I usually ask but I thought I knew what I was doing. haha

Yea roms dont like being installed backwards:eek: My suggestion to you is to slow down with everything.. Do alot of reading and ask questions in the help section before you touch another game:) Whatever you do stay away from the monitors, if you get zapped by one you willl be picking yourself off the floor, if you even get up!!!

This right here. Any place selling stuff generally assumes you know what you're doing......or you wouldn't be buying the stuff.

Think of it like this......when I go to the auto parts supply house and buy new brake pads for my car......The dude/chick behind the counter assumes I'm gonna know what to do with them (or, why the hell am I buying them!:D).

I actually got lit up by a TV I left plugged in when I was a kid. laying your hand on a live circuit board sucks.

The Pac Man machine is my third machine and I have made a handfull of mistakes on it but Im not completely clueless. Where it seems like the Pac Man machine is cursed, I have a ghost and Goblins Machine that every time I touch it it's a win. I've swapped everything from the Joy stick to changing the moniter to LCD. The Buttons are LED. It's just a joy to play with.

My Pacman machine I've repainted the dashboard and revived its graphics. Fixed the marquee lights, the trim mold. Fixed and painted the coin opps, Got the monitor running and all the glass replaced. It's just that motherboard. I would have just had it serviced but where I live there are no guys who work on those machines. I swear its cursed cause I only paid $60 for it.

some guy had tenants move out of his house and they left it behind.

And I get the auto parts referance but if you ask the people at the counter they will print out a complete break down of the part you buy and its application. And you can usually find a manual for your car there too.

I do appreciate this site very much and it has been a ton of help

This scares me...

This has to do with what I wanted to bring up to you. It's my recommendation that you put your location into your profile. As you can see in the top right of my posts, it says I am from St. Charles, MO.

This is totally optional of course but it would greatly help people help you, if they know where you're at. Who knows? Maybe there is a KLOVer experienced with board repair that's in your area!!!

About my G&G machine, Why Would that scare you?

I know that a lot of these response seem like I'm going gung ho on these machines but I have been doing a lot of research . how do you thing I found this place?

I just wanted to know why no one has directions when you buy parts. The ROM chips were all labeled where they go and that's easy enough to figure out. A note with simply, Remember to face all chips with notch facing the same way, would have been helpful.

I tattoo for a living and just cause somebody already has a back piece before I tattoo them doesn't stop me from giving them after care instructions.

I updated my location

Probably because a nice GnG machine is pretty hard to find.

Mine Is not the original cabinet but The game plays great after I replaced the joystick and buttons. The marquee and the plexy glass over the monitor is nice.

how is an easy way to post a pic here?

It had a pacman screen with heavy burn in it.

Is it a sin to fix machines here? I was buying arcade machine to build a piece of my child hood in my house. My PacMan machine is all original and it doesn't play.

I donated to arcade museum and if I'm a douche for upgrading my G&G machine maybe I don't belong here.

I'm pretty sure those guys were being sarcastic. Sarcasm is the KLOV humor du jour. It can bug the new guys a bit, but before you know it....you'll be throwing it right back. It really is (usually) meant in good nature.

I take it you don't have Pep Boys in your neck of the woods.:D

Google is your friend-

http://www.pinballroms.com/documents/installing_eproms_de.html

http://www.hobbyroms.com/installeprom.html

First three results from the search How to install eprom.
And as far as the manual - here's a few sites with pac-man manuals -

http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arcade_Bally_Midway/
http://www.crazykong.com/manuals/#P
http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=10816

The info is out there- you just need to look a bit for it.
