I have been looking at replacement batteries for the CPS2 boards and have found several different brands. Many seem to use the Tadiran brand and I was wondering if they were better or just they were easier to get or ???

Here are the ones I have found is there any experience with them? are there any to avoid?

I bought mine from jammaboards if I recall. I can't remember what the batteries looked like, but IMO I don't think it really matters.

if you operate your board daily you won't have any monumental issues with the battery anyway. the board keeps a charge for a little bit of time when it's off.

which reminds me, I need to run my AVP, I never changed the battery in it. I probably power it up like 4 times a year and have had it a year and a half and it's still on the original battery from like 1994!

I've been putting in the Xeno but you wouldn't know if they were bad untill you got screwed on them.

As per a previous discussion, the cheapest place we've found so far buying them online, unless buying by a large bulk is here.

I would be so pissed if my SFA3 suicide-ed. lol

what do you suggest, metering the battery before installing to be sure?

Dude... try having a 3rd Strike go suicide after a battery instead. I haven't had that happen to me but I put in a new Xeno into my 3rd Strike and I started sleeping better after that.

So I have one of the last CPS2 games to be revived by Capcom USA. I sat there while Hugo actually showed me how he ri\evived boards. (my tower of doom) A year later it suicides.... how sucky is that. I still have not gotten it phoenixed yet. He put in a stock brand of battery also!!!!

I'm in the same boat, i haven't powered my AvP on in over a year gonna do it now while i'm posting this.

results are: 16 years later the original suicide battery is still good!!!!!

so has anyone ordered from BestByte.net? i was planning on buying 2 or more batteries from them if they're reputable. or i'll call them today or monday and just find out if there's even humans running the place.

I'm also going to look into where to obtain the battery cage that this guy uses in this link

seems it would be much faster/easier to just de-solder and solder once.

I've yet to replace any of my CPS2 boards. They all work, I checked lastnight. I must've had them for atleast 5 years each. most of them have not been fired up in awhile. I must be pressing my luck. I ordered batteries yesterday.

same boat, i'm definitely playing with fire. where did you order your batteries?

it's been over a year since i fired up AvP i've had it since atleast 2003/2004, and have never opened it up. i actually just found out about cps2 suicide a few days ago when i was wiki/google-ing just the general concept of the cps board. it's on my high priority list now tho.

I just got my Super Street Fighter II X, and I separated the A and B boards the other day. The original Capcom warranty labels are still in tact, so I'm assuming it's the original battery in it.

Unless it has been serviced by Capcom some time in the past. Who knows.

I really need to get on the ball and just replace the battery. I don't want to phoenix it if I don't have to.

I have read there are suggestions against using the battery holders. They could provide an additional point of failure due to corrosion or shock (like dropping, not electrical).

I've replaced the batteries on about a dozen boards now and it's pretty simple. I would see no reason to use a battery holder. You only have to do it every so many years.

well put, i didn't think about the chances of failure w/ the battery holder. your right it is a simple process and agreed only every so often, i just don't see getting rid of mine in the next 10-20 years so i was just thinking of how much quicker and easier it would be without having to solder.

i'll steer away from the holder now, thanks for the info!

Just ordered (2) from bestbyte.net $3.00ea + $2.66 shipping good deal! :D

Bumping...so...the general consensus is to go with Xeno from Bestbyte? I've been lazy and haven't changed the batteries on a bunch of my CPS2's. Need to do it. :p

I got mine 2 days ago in the mail so shipping was fast, atleast it was to NY. just waiting on my new soldering station and it's go time.
