So, I was buying some capacitors on mouser just so I can have a bunch around when needed.

I came across High temp capacitors, now is there any downside to using them other than price? (which they dont seem to be that much more expensive either)

Are panasonic capacitors superior compared to nichison and all those other brands?

thanks

Some monitors require high temp (105 degree) caps and replacing those with lower temp (85 degree ) caps will just cause issues down the road.
There is no harm using high temp caps to replace the lower temp ones.
I will sometimes use a higher temp cap even though it was not original if the cap happens to be located next to a heat source, such as a transistor on a heat sink, a high wattage resistor etc.

Nichicon is supposed to be one of the best brands in caps.

Guess what failed in my Sony Amplifier right after the warranty period ? Yes a Nichicon cap.

Still I think it's a top brand. Panasonic are probably fine too. I use them too.
I like them better than the el-cheapo looking Xircon's.

High temp is always nice for monitors IMHO.

Ah, thanks for replies guys. Sounds like money well spent then ;)

I use Xircon 105 degree caps in my kits. They work very well.

Didn't Mouser discontinue carrying Xicon brand electrolytic capacitors recently? Seems i remember someone talking about Mouser's part numbers for Xicon now go to a completely different brand.

Huh!
I just looked -- all the Xicon's they have left are marked "end of life". It's about time!

Mouser and Xicon must have setup an arrangement awhile back. Then the Xicon website (www.xicon-passive.com) went away and got redirected to Mouser.

Now, only if Mouser would get rid of Lelon.

Ed

Aw crud! When you search for Xicon part numbers, you get referred to a Lelon part. I don't like either brand but think the Xicon's were far superior to Lelons!!!
