Buy 1 'A' title or 3 older pins?

depends on space or lack there of, if that's not an issue 2 is a better route. that way others who are over can play the 2nd machine while the other is being played (if you have more than a few people over). it also keeps you from getting to tired of one or the other as fast, another benefit is that if one breaks you still have another machine to play while you wait for parts/repairs :D

yep. Good points.

RIght now I have:

High Speed II (The Getaway)
Wipeout (Gottlieb)
Whirlwind
FishTales

I have room for a few more...

I just got rid of scared stiff...A fun game, but worth 3 'B' titles? I didnt think so...

Buy a good game. You'll play it 10 times more than you will 3 crappy games.

Easy to answer. One A title - granted its a game you enjoy.

Ask any Pin owner and you will find that one game gets the most attention in a lineup- certain games just have you coming back. Find that game, hope its in your price range and stick with it.

Squeezing in "any" three games (or two, or whatever you can spread around) just for the sake will lead to lots of flipping until you find a game you truly want.

Which brings us to - why are titles "A titles"? Because they seem to be the ones that people want, increasing your change of a successful game.

fair points.

But there are lots of solid titles that can be had on the cheap.

Space shuttle, pinbot, earthshaker etc. Those types of pins I could get 2 or maybe even 3 of for $3200...

If you have the space for a few, I say - the more the merrier! "B" games aren't always "B" due to gameplay. I find the gameplay on most "B" games to be as fun if not more so than the "A" games. Buy the game YOU want...not what people say you should have. If you like Space Shuttle, Pinbot, and Earthshaker...there ya go...get those games!

BTW - what's the "A" game you're thinking of getting?

Was thinking TSPP for an 'A' game...

Problem is, I've had RFM and Scared Stiff. Both good games but I just get bored with the lineup regardless of whats in it!

Well that's definitely a good one! I guess when I think of A Games, I'm thinking of the $5000-8000 madness of AFM, MB, MM...maybe we should retitle those "$ Games", and there are SOOOO many cheaper games with just as much quality fun. TSPP is definitely one...and since it's the deepest game ever, you're not as likely to get bored of it like SS or RFM.

The nice thing about TSPP - it's always in demand. You can easily sell it if you decide it's not for you.

Hands down 3 games dude. While I love TSPP, I would much rather have diversity in a collection.

My personal opinion, A list titles are grossly over priced and as Rarehero stated - there's tons of B list games that are just as fun.

The right answer here is... It depends...

In my opinion:

SM >> DE:SW + Shadow + Getaway

But

FT + Funhouse + Taxi >> TAF

AND, for me

SM vs. FT + FH + Taxi

I'd probably go SM but its CLOSE....

SOOOO, what that means, is, don't worry so much about the label, play the games and go with what feels right to you.

Agreed. And if you're buying games for the whole family... three will definitely get more play than one. :) At least that's the case here...

Easy

Buy something you like. To many times I've gone for more titles, then less.. If i had the cash, Circus Voltaire would be my choice :)

you guys might be amused by this but my first exposure to the world of pinball (after 1981) was the milwaukee pinball show this spring.

I played a lot of games without knowing any pedigree or having someone give me a bias before playing (except attack from mars which had a mob around it)

I played medieval madness, tales of arabian nights, etc. they had a good selection.

And what I learned. I have no interest in the dollar signs behind what is considered a super game. Although I've since learned to love MM and Arabian nights on xbox 360.

After I found my first game to buy (Eight ball deluxe) what made it A list to me was that the daughter would come over after work just to play. we laughed and laughed this summer having fun around that machine. and the little kids love to hear the machine count out the ball number when hitting drop target. man so much bang for the buck.

I've played Addam's family and find the mamushka most entertaining. but $3500 bucks. no Fn way.

B list for me all the way, baby.

I'd rather have 3 System 11 machines that I really like rather than my RFM / SWE1 combo.

Providing conditions were similar.

Would trade in a second for great condition BK2K, Earthshaker and Whirlwind.

lol I agree, some of the prices on these things is just silly

However, they hold their value and even go up...so you're not likely to lose your ass if you're in a pinch and need to sell it. That's what finally got me past the insanity of the cost of the pinball hobby. If you "buy right" you'll always end up ahead. My Addams was $2400 and super nice. I have no plans to sell it, but if I had to - I'm good!

well Addams for $2400 I could see... but someone was selling one locally for $4300... which is insane...

most of the $3500+ machines are not worth it to me IMHO... especially since they are mostly Williams machines which are pretty much designed to self-destruct
