I picked up a dead Buster Bros. board from a member here on the forums for cheap in the hopes that the issue was a suicided board. Well last night Ian (RetroHacker) burned two unencrypted ROMs last night and now it is working! It really is a great game! I just wanted to share my excitement at having a working board!

If you need to fix one of these boards here is the info:

Nothin like seeing a game spring back to life so easily. It's an underappreciated beauty of Life. Good job.

I have Super Buster Bros. It's a fun series for sure.

I should probably update mine, I haven't touched the battery since I've owned it.

Yup, great co-op "puzzler." I love the level designs, powerups, etc.

I remember playing this a lot on a summer trip to Korea when I was a kid. Almost every arcade had it along with SFII.

Pang = Buster Bros
Super Pang = Super Buster Bros
Pang 3 = Buster Buddies
Mighty Pang doesn't have a "Buster" counterpart (I believe)

i did the same thing last year (fixed a suicided Buster Bros.) and put the board and marquee into a converted Taito cab and took it to the NW Pinball and Gameroom show. people seemed to really like it! someday i'll have the space to get the cab out of my garage so i can actually play.

I co-worker and I tried to play it on Sunday at the show, and every time we walked by it, someone was playing it.

This is definitely a cool game - I'd never played it before last night when we hooked the repaired board up to my test rig. It looks like it would be very addicting.

Hehe. I kept getting killed very quickly - partly probably because of the Sega Genesis controller I use on the test rig, and because I'd never played it - but also Tighe discovered the difficulty was set to "Very Difficult". Heh.

Now I have to find one of these boards. It's a fantastic game.

Anyone have a suicided Buster Bros. they want to sell cheap? :D

The bubbles are crazy in "Very difficult" mode!

It is a great game to get, not under-rated, but more of a under the radar game.

Thanks Ian for burning those ROMs! You need to come over and play it!

Did your pcb have a ROM at 14H? The instructions you linked to mention needing to burn a new ROM for 14H if it's populated, but the unencrypted ROM files he provides only has 2 ROM files.

Yeah, only two files, two ROMs to burn. A 27c020 and a 27c512.

This is why I haven't resurrected mine yet, I'm confused by this:
If you're working on a game with a ROM at 14H, you'll need to burn a new ROM for 14H (also a 27C020), pull up pin 30 on that one and run a wire from pin 30 to pin 27 on the Kabuki as well.

I have a ROM at 14H on my board, but I have no idea what is supposed to be burned to that ROM.

**EDIT**
Maybe I have a Super Buster Bros pcb? It was labeled as a Buster Bros, but I see the file he has for Super has the ROM for 14H.
What's the difference between the first and Super? Is it a better or worse game?
