This always stuck with me as an idea, so for once I decided to take charge and try it out. Every time I had met someone and told them about some of my hobbies they always asked if I could help them with some of their old games, but they always asked for a business card. Of course, I'm not officially running a business so I didn't have any, but I thought something like that really wouldn't matter. You need something to advertise your services and skills regardless if you have an official business or license as long as it was done just as a friendly service or sort of like power selling on Ebay.

So I decided to design something around my hobbies and favorite games. Now I realized that business cards are typically high quality images designed in something like photoshop. I read up it into a little more on VistaPrint, as they offer printing services for cheap, fast, and bulk business cards. Jpeg images are too low resolution, Pixelated images don't scale well, RGB is not the correct color scale to be used for printing (CMYK), and generally its better to design graphics from vectorized shapes. So I decided to spend some time last night designing a card from scratch as it would be crazy to think a business card would come out very clear if I used pictures from the internet and such. Spent about 4 hours constructing everything by hand, I had reference, it's not entirely perfect but I like this design for my first set of cards.

I was pretty satisfied with the results so I decided to go ahead and order about 500 cards, was only $10 and they offered free shipping right now.

Has anyone else tried this or have a business card available to show off =D
Post them!

This sample is in a JPEG format, so the quality will be lower than the actual PSD format I used for the card.

Very nice!

Here's mine- nothing special but I send them along with key chain orders and hand them out when I meet someone into arcade games:

Better get a permit. :) (See lemonade thread)

Lol, i see how that just turned up today of all days. Nah, but I'm not officially selling anything at the moment, I wouldn't even know what to begin to charge, but I want my info out there so they know who to contact. I'm looking to turn it into a future business once I get some more workspace than my apartment.....

But man, I actually had setup a lemonade/drink stand when I was a kid. We even set it up on the main street in our neighborhood, only made about $25 a day, maybe $30 max. Even remember a few friends selling soda down the same street for $1 a can. His mom would just go to the grocery store to pick up several 12 packs and ice for the chest.

I'm just having a little fun making designs so I decided to make one like the old Super Mario Bros. from the NES. I haven't decided to print this one though......maybe.

I kinda like the SEGA style font on my "DJ' (initials) to keep something similar to the name of the business (...when i get it up and running). What do ya'll think?

Again this is a JPEG sample, so the resolution and dpi quality is lower than that of what will be printed in the photoshop .PSD format

That's pretty cool, but I would think most people think of consoles when they think of SMB. Just looking at your card I would think you deal in used console parts and repair...

Hehe, I wouldn't mind that actually. I wanted to put myself out there as a multi talented individual, like a Jack of All Trades but Master of None. =P

Of course the main focus would still be Arcade Games though.

About the only thing I would change would be your email address...change it to match your DJ business name or maybe something a little more professional sounding than rikitheshadow.

Just a thought.

:)

I was thinking of that when I got the business up and running for sure. But for right now it just shows them how I'm willing to share with them my personal email address. That or until I run out of my first set of business cards lolz =P

Well, not a business card per se, but I designed these headers and footers for my eBay auctions. (If anybody wants something similar, let me know! ;)):
