I picked up a really nice looking Space Duel last week that is having some monitor problems. The game is currently playing blind, and the person I bought it from said one of the resistors went when he was playing it the night before I picked it up. I should note that he is a bit of a flipper and had just picked it up a few days prior, allegedly working. Upon inspection I can see that R100 is burned on the WG6100. The game currently plays and you can see three colored dots (red, green, blue) in the center of the screen- not on top of each other but more in a small, triangular pattern.

If I replace the resistor in R100 should I be good or is this a result of a deeper problem? This is my first time digging into a vector, so any advice is much appreciated!

The next question is, what type of resistor do I need to get? I went to Radio Shack for something else and noticed that they had a bunch, but they all seemed to be in volts. When I look up R100 in the manual it says it is "15 Ohm +/- 5% 1/2 W Resistor". Should I then be looking for a 15Ohm resistor? Again, thanks a lot- I really want to get this one going!

Resistors shouldn't be measured in volts, they're measured in ohms and watts. Uou need a 15 ohm resistor in 1/2 watt..those are the next step up from the smallest ones. There's a handful of notes on here as far as upgrading those monitors, and hopefully someone that knows more will chime in. I may have to get mine going soon, I don't even know if it works.

has the monitor been capped? if not might want to get a lv2000 and the bob roberts deluxe repair kit for the monitor

I have not done a cap kit on it, but it would certainly be a good idea. I will probably buy the kit from Bob- might as well do it while I have the monitor discharged. I wasn't sure if some deeper problem can burn up R100 or if it just randomly burned up. I will get moving on getting a cap kit ordered.

Anybody else have any ideas about this particular resistor burning up? Not sure if this resistor is in the cap/rebuild kit, but I will be finding out and picking one up regardless.

def install a lv2000 in the low voltage section as the LV is known for going out on these vector monitors http://www.vector-repair.com/

Upon further review of the manual in your previous message, it looks like R100 is part of the low voltage section, so I must have had a high voltage issue. I do have a new LV2000 (the most recent version) sitting here waiting to go into my Tempest, but it looks like it will be going into Space Duel instead. Not sure if I will get to it in the next couple of days, but hopefully I will be able to install it on Wednesday night or something. I will update this thread once I put it in.

Order the $14 Bob Roberts 6100 cap kit it comes with all six transistors and the basics to repair it. You could have something else causing that to happen which might muck up the LV2000.

There's a 6100 FAQ around somewhere that details why R100 would burn up. Worth reading, and I would recommend the deluxe repair kit for the 6100 AND the LV2000 along with a fan or two to cool things down.

Good luck, I chased a R100 problem for a while on mine, too. Turned out to be a shorted diode on the HV board.
