Hi Guys, New to the fourms, I am Restoring an all original Bugertime CT the had been sitting in a semi trailer since 1984. Everything is in awesome shape except the the underlay by the top glass. Overtime it appears to have "wrinkled" around the the edges of the inside portion that surrounds the monitor. I know I can buy a reproduction, But this one is in great shape except for the "wrinkles". Just wondering if anyone has any advice on if they can be removed somehow? or will I just have to live with it for now due to a tight budget. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks! (I'm going to try attaching a pic of the area im describing)

Burgertime Underlay Question....

Thanks for the replys, It is like a thick plastic material. I was curious if maybe carefully using a heat gun or something of the like would fix it? I don't know and I'm afraid to try it because otherwise it's in awesome shape...I just got this CT working today, it does sometimes freeze up while in game play though, Very fun project but does it ever end? Seems like most of my projects stay just that, projects!

I'm just tossing out ideas here:

- clamp a second piece of glass behind it, maybe with some wax paper in between the glass and backside of the bezel, and toss in the oven on a low temp?

- heat gun and a rolling pin. Definitely go slow because I could see heating too fast and shrinking the plastic to the point of no repair.

- if the plastic is flexible and just sagging, maybe you could build an underlayment or support to sandwich the bezel. A piece of thin plexi or sheet steel might do the trick.

Heat did it, thus heat would probably be the only thing to smooth it out again. Or at least a little better.

If you've not done this before, or flame polished anything with a heat gun, I'd leave it alone.

An easier way to get heat to it and be safe, would be to flip it over and leave it in the sun for a few hours. Bring it back in and immediately put weight in it, like some books or something and leave it over night.

Burgertime Underlay Question...

I am going to try to place the underlay in between two pieces of glass and put it in the sun for a little while and watch it carefully. Not the end of the world if this plan doesn't work, I'm Just thrilled that I finally got a BT cocktail. I'll update if it does anything good for it, Thanks again for all of your help guys!

I am a plastics expert. In technical terms, your overlay is screwed. lol. j/k. Good luck with trying to fix it.
