I just picked up a BurgerTime. Its been sitting for years not being used. Game plays fine, all sounds work. The sound is crackly. Sounds like a bad speaker. Is there a sound board to recap, or is it the speaker? I don't have an 8 ohm speaker to plug into it without robbing it from another game.

Could be a dirty Volume pot. Try some TV Tuner cleaner on it.

mine does the same thing after i got it up and running, but only static sound for a second or two. i figured it's my speaker, doesn't bother me enough to replace it yet...and same issue, no 8ohm speaker on hand.

The volume pot is on the main board. No external volume pot on this machine. I've gone back and forth with it a bunch of times to try to clean it, but no luck. I guess I'll try to come up with a speaker. I've got a few other games that would sound better with a new speaker also..

I'll give a speaker a try and see how it does.. My static never goes away. Even at low volumes its still there..

I finally finished the restoration of my BT.. Can't believe I've had the game this long. Anyway, I've still got this sound issue. I replaced the speaker with a new one and I still get this static sound during game play. The sound effects are fine during test mode, but during play, after a sound effect, I get a bad muffled static sound. I did a search (thats how I found this thread), and saw a few threads about recapping the sound board. Is there a kit for it or just look at the caps and order the right ones. Is the sound area limited to the area next to the vol pot? also saw mention about replacing the 555 timer chip.
