I picked up this converted Burgertime over the weekend. Cab is in solid shape overall. When I went to pick it up I realized that the side panels must have been trimmed where Peter's hat sticks out. I assume that it was done by the operator that converted it to US Golf. Crazy, but we have all seen crazy hack jobs unfortunately. Suggestions on making it right? I was thinking of either fabricating the missing hat part, or even just cutting entirely new side panels. Since the missing pieces are not weight bearing, it would just be a matter of getting the proper dimensions for the patch pieces, biscuit them it place, then bondo. Any ideas on how to go about getting the right shape for the patch? Any other creative ideas or am I on the right track? Thanks

The hell dude. I'm working with a guy to pick one up in Green Bay today. LOL. This must be a "thing".

I'm going to print out the side panels and draw a line at the missing parts. Then I can cut the paper with scissors to use that as an exact template for the missing bits.

I saw this one for sale. I am glad you are going to restore it.

Dominos are really strong. Find a woodworker friend with the right tool.

I used them on a part of the cabinet that needs strength and they've held just fine. I suppose biscuits would be OK too.

The guy seems really flaky. He's one of those marketplace sellers that responses to a message in 24 hours or longer and is never available for pickup. I don't know why people like that even bother listing anything.

Well done with this. I have often thought of this, but this is a sweet solution.

Around here, we'd call these "tenons". Could also use biscuits.

Before and after. Just sharing in case anyone else needs the encouragement to make that cut. It's nerve wracking but can yield good results. I used "Provincial" stain on red oak wood to get a decent match to my Gyruss wood grain. I never could find a laminate or vinyl that was close enough.

Now, back to Burgertime. I say go for it! With paint and new side art, the repair will be invisible.

I recall @jawhn recounting a story where he picked up a Burgertime cab that was painted black, only to discover after he paid for it and was loading it up with the seller that the guy had already sanded off the artwork and painted it black.

Yup. Had already paid him, explained that I was planning on restoring it and hoping to be able to remove the layer of black paint, and the guy waited until we had already loaded it into my truck to tell me that.

Was pissed.

This is actually what I'm wanting to do with a spare Ms Pac cabinet. I planned to cut the top straight across and then cut a new chef's hat for Ms Pac and biscuit join that sucker on.
